PS3 Little Big Planet

Funktioniert das wie bei Warhawk ? Also das man einfach nur die PS Taste am zweiten Controller drückt und man steigt gleich ins Spiel ein oder muss man das vorher auswählen?

hmmmm....

I've finished my next public demo

As you all know, I go about creating complicated mechanisms do to things which haven't been done before on LBP. Well here's all the details on my latest one...

20mb00.jpg

What is it?
It's an enclosed system for detecting sackboy movements in two planes of direction. It contains 4 pistons and 4 sensor switches, one for each direction of movement (left/right/up/down). The sensor switches are hooked through a separate piston system, which uses a variation of joaomgcd's logic systems to detect if a sensor switch is activated. The entire set-up only takes up one layer, and hence can be constrained to the background and covered with a wall.

How it works:
The sackboy floats on a jetpack in the centre of the system. When the sackboy moves in a direction, it sets off one of four sensor switches. These switches can be used for a game-related action. eg, move a spaceship left/right/up/down. The switches also trigger an extension of the 4 pistons, which returns the sackboy to his original position.

What does this mean?
This just opened a whole new avenue of gameplay genres which are not compatible with the 2.5D platformer style. With the sackboy hidden, analogue stick movements could control any aspect in the game. eg, you could move a character around a 2D world map, or create a list interface where up/down selects options and right means Accept.

Consider the following gameplay styles which could now be made using this mechanism:

Where can I find an example of this?
I've published the demo mechanism on LBP. It's title is "GAF: 2D Movement Demo", and can be found off of the west coast of Australia. The game features a Neogaf logo as the icon. A template of the movement system is rewarded as a prize for completing the level. Sorry if anything breaks or doesn't go as expected.

I understood all of the above and want more information:
This idea developed a couple days ago. I'd been discussing it with gofreak, who had had a similar idea for remote control using the sackboy. Gofreak's problem was that he didn't have an automatic reset of the sackboy's position, so once you pushed left it kept going left until you moved back. I hoped to solve this with a series of 4 pistons.

When you activate a sensor switch, every piston simultaneously extends, pushing you back to the starting position. Each piston is set to 0.2 seconds for expansion/contraction. I originally tried 0.1 seconds, but the sackboy had too much residual velocity after being pushed at this speed.

Another problem I experienced was trying to get the sackboy to spawn inside the mechanism. It's not possible because the checkpoint needs a cleared space for the respawn to occur. What I did instead was place the checkpoint above the system, and remove the lid. When the sackboy falls in, it activates a sensor which closes the lid, completing the enclosed system and trapping the sackboy.

On last thing: the system needs to have a wall in front of it or the sackboy can fly out.

What still needs to be done:
The system doesn't work with 2 players in there at once for obvious reasons. This would put a restriction on any levels designed based around this. However, if required, there could be multiple copies of the mechanism -- one for each player. How this would all interact is dependant on what the user was trying to do. (i.e. I haven't thought about it, but you could probably do something)

Also, tools need to be set-up for the automatic scrolling of maps based on direction movements while keeping a stationary sprite. It might require a fair bit of effort, unfortunately with my current workload I don't think I have time to develop one.
