also: 2011 E3: NGP Vorstellung, Release im selben Jahr
2012 E3: PS4 Vorstellung, Release 2012-2013 weltweit!

Ex-Bizarre devs form Lucid Games

From the ashes of Liverpool developer Bizarre Creations' closure emerges a new studio: Lucid Games.

It's just been formed by some of the brains behind Bizarre, and found a home in familiar territory – the north west of England.

And they're hiring.

The staff already at Lucid are behind games including Geometry Wars, the Project Gotham Racing series, Blur and James Bond 007: Blood Stone.

Pete Wallace, a former Bizarre senior manager and now Lucid managing director, said: "With the great history of Bizarre behind us, we are proud to be part of Lucid and are committed to the UK game development community.

"We plan to build a studio which encourages open communication with its partners, customers and other developers."

Lucid is already talking to several publishers regarding potential projects, it said.

"Our approach is to create for fun, quality and simplicity – it's how our games make you feel that matters to us," Wallace continued. "We are committed to hiring character, hiring talent and training skill.

"It's not about qualifications or years in the industry, we are looking for creatives with a positive attitude and plenty of aptitude.

"If you are interested in being a part of something new and feel you can meet or exceed the standards you have seen in our previous games then get in touch."

Activision's January 2011 announcement that it intended to terminate Bizarre came after a three month long search for a buyer.

Many staff at Bizarre used that time to search for new jobs. Ex-design manager Gareth Wilson, who spoke exclusively to Eurogamer yesterday, found one at Sheffield based Outrun Online Arcade developer Sumo Digital – he is now its new chief games designer.

Speaking to the Liverpool Daily Post, Wallace commented on the impact Bizarre's demise had on staff.

"People were aware there were going to be cuts. But the closure of the studio just wasn't expected at all. Most people didn't want to move away from the area, even though they're well-placed to go and work in Seattle or Canada."

Lucid's commercial director, Andy Davidson, added: "We know people are being targeted by headhunters and being asked about moving, particularly to Canada.

"We want to get back to the levels of innovation and creativity at Bizarre that made Activision so keen to acquire it."

UK Xbox gamers spend £64 a month

Microsoft reveals findings of gamer survey; 13 per cent spend over £100 on Xbox games

On average UK Xbox 360 gamers splurge £64 a month on their hobby according to Microsoft.

The format holder’s ad sales department – Microsoft Advertising – also found that 13 per cent of gamers spend more than £100 on 360 games each month.

The findings were part of a survey of 251 UK Xbox 360 gamers aged between 25 and 34 years old. The data was shared exclusively with MCV.

360 owners also play around seven different games each month on average.

83 per cent of Xbox 360 users game three to four times each week and 41 per cent play for three or four hours per day.

The most popular games are shooters, followed by racing and RPGs. One third of Xbox Live gamers play casual games or MMOs, and over a third play gambling titles. 360 gamers go online almost every day each week – by contrast, the average male checks websites five days a week.

“Compared against the average male, gamers represent an attractive proposition for marketers,” says Microsoft Advertising’s head of research for data and analytics Julie Forey.

“Earning a higher wage, being advocates of premium goods and over half playing for more than three hours each day, this provides firms with a profile from which they can base their message.”

Peter Dille Leaves Sony

Peter Dille helped launch both the original PlayStation and the PS3, but now the senior vice president of marketing has left Sony.

Industry Gamers reports that Dille has left the company, but it's not know where he's going or why he's resigned. Sony has confirmed Dille's departure and added this generic statement:

"The leadership of our marketing effort is a key to the continued growth of the PlayStation brand, and the deep bench of executives and marketing team at SCEA will continue to drive the marketing function in North America until we establish a replacement. We wish Peter well in his future endeavors."

Dille spent some time at THQ between two stints at Sony, so perhaps he'll return to the company a third time in the future.

Sony Wins, all seized PS3 to be returned and LG fined

Sony’s won their case against LG and will be getting all their seized PS3’s back.
All 300,000 PS3s will be returned back to Sony and all future PS3 shipments can be let into Europe without any issues or breach of law.
LG will also have to pay 130,000 euros to Sony for the costs of the hearing.
LG will also need to ensure that all seized PS3s are returned to Sony by tomorrow and each day they lose will cost them a fine of 200,000 euros.
This verdict is only regarding the seizure of the console by LG and the fight between the two giants regarding a paten breach will continue.
