Ragnarok Online

scan.jpg

A portion of a 1up interview with Monster Games president Richard Garcia and Nintendo's Hiro Yamada...
1up: World Rally is the only Nintendo-published game I can think of to offer online multiplayer only. Why is there no local multiplayer? After all, Excitebike Vs. for Famicom managed to include the same fixed perspective and still let players go head-to-head.
RG: You’re exactly right! In Vs. Excitebike, you could play local two-player mode with horizontal split-screen. (You must know your games really well given that the game was launched only in Japan as a Famicom Disk System game!)
We wanted to add local multiplayer to this game as well. But as you can see by playing the game, the player can jump so high that they leave the screen for a while. If we split the screen horizontally, the player can jump off the screen for an even longer time whenever they do a big jump. We couldn't split the screen vertically, since it is important in this game to see down the track to plan your moves. Instead of being fun, split-screen was just stressful. We finally decided that it would be best if multiplayer gaming was restricted to Wi-Fi mode.
Ein bisschen fadenscheinig, wenn ihr mich fragt. Gäbe genug Möglichkeiten...

Monster Rancher DS - trailer, more details

Publisher: Tecmo, Inc.
Developer: Cing
Platform: Nintendo DS
Genre: Strategy
Ship Date: March 2010
Price: $29.99
ESRB: "E," Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence

Teaming up with Cing, TECMO is releasing Monster Rancher DS, their newest addition to the beloved monster breeding series! Filled with nostalgia from past games, fans of the series will recognize popular characters and monsters such as Mocchi and Suezo, the big one-eyed monster, but there are plenty of new monsters to discover in this game! Generate monsters by drawing pictures in "Magic Field," or by speaking into the microphone in "Incantation" mode. Use your best strategy to raise, train, and battle your monsters. Can you become a legendary master breeder?

Game Features

* Use Your Imagination: Recite your favorite word and see what monster is created! Or, if it's too loud to speak, draw a silly picture and see what monster appears. Unlock a secret method of creating monsters as you play through the game! You can even combine your favorite monsters to create a new, more powerful monster!
* Train to Become a Master Breeder: Find the best strategy to raise your monster on a weekly basis-too much rest or too much of the same training can be ineffective!
* Bring Out the Rivalry: Not only was the training and management portion of monster breeding brushed up, but there are also many instances to fight rival breeders in the game as well!
* Play with Friends: Battle your friends locally or online! Friends can also combine their monsters to create exciting new types through a local connection!
* Battle Rounds: Choose attack techniques to be placed in the "short," "medium," and "long" ranges and execute them when there are enough points in the guts meter. If no technique is selected for a range, it becomes a defense panel and evasion skills are improved at that range.
* Nostalgia: Favorites such as Monolith, Gali, Mocchi, and Suezo rejoin the cast of monsters in what can be called a Monster Rancher series compilation.

Level-5 is known primarily for the Professor Layton series. But the Fukuoka-based publisher is more than just a one hit wonder.

The Inazuma Eleven series also appears to be a big hit. Today, the company announced that shipments for Inazuma Eleven 2 have crossed the million mark. The second Inazuma Eleven 2 was released in separate "Fire" and "Blizzard" forms on October 1.

Level-5 has some big promotions ahead for the franchise. Early next year, it will hold a tournament called "Football Frontier." Preliminary rounds will be held at the World Hobby Fair, which starts in Osaka in late January.
