Nnooo will Instant Messenger für DSi entwickeln

Well, we got a really good one we would love to do which we are calling myChat, that would basically allow users to instant message or video conference or call each other through Nintendo Wi-Fi, but unfortunately, because Nintendo DSi isn’t classified as a communication device like the telephone, it is in a real grey area, so we had that to put on hold at the moment just because Nintendo aren’t yet ready. We thought it would be really cool, but we can’t go futher with that unfortunately.

Etrian Odyssey III - teaser site

The official Japanese teaser site for Etrian Odyssey III has opened, and the image you see above is the only thing that the site offers. We'll have to wait until the 14th to get some more information!

Estpolis Official Site Updated

Square Enix updated the Estpolis official site today with new sections on story, character, and gameplay.

The story section now has a "World View" sub section, which provides a look at the Parcelite Republic. This is one of the world's three kingdoms. It's technologically the most advanced of the three and has also prospered artistically due to its freedom of expression.

The pic to the left shows the president's mansion. Above the mansion is a holy artifact. One of the three primary artifacts of the world, it blesses people with water. Parcelite is known as the City of Water.

By the way, this is the president of Parcelite:

President Miles (you can LOL) looks totally evil with that suit and patch, but he's apparently highly favored by his people.

The character section has a look at heroine Tia. Childhood friend to main character Maxim, the 17-year-old hails from the countryside town of Elcid and in screenshots seems to be a bit overwhelmed in coming to Parcelite.

You know those item shops you visit in RPGs? Tia is the daughter of the owners of one of those shops. Her parents died when she was young.

The system section of the site is newly opened with this update. It includes looks at four areas of gameplay:

Real Time Battle

As previously detailed, Estpolis differs from the original Lufia II in that it's a real time action game. You move your character around on the top screen. You can swap characters instantly by tapping face panels on the bottom screen. Each character has unique capabilities, both for combat and for exploring dungeons.

Two screen Battle

Boss battles take up the top and bottom screens. There are a variety of battle types, but screenshots shown so far suggest that you only stay on the bottom screen (Square Enix hasn't specifically stated this, so I could be wrong).

Towns and Dungeons

Dungeons range from standard types like towers, ruins, and forests, to such areas as shrines and mobile bridges (I'm not sure what a "mobile bridge" is supposed to be). Towns are also varied, including snow, water, and castle types.

Wave Arts

To clear the dungeons, you'll have to make use of character-specific "Wave Arts." The site has a look at Maxim's Cross Dash, Selena's Icicle Blade, and Tia's Hook Shot. These can be used both for clearing gimmicks, and for attacking foes.

Japan-Nintendo's DSiWare Fighting Game

2132401262.jpg

Nintendo's latest DSiware title is just 200 DSipoints, so it's probably experimental. That's good, because one look at it, and you'll definitely want to experiment.

Titled Fight With Photos: Photo Fighter X, this original fighting game has you use the DSi hardware to create fighters and stages. You use the camera to take pictures of yourself in various poses. You then record sounds and voices for your punches and special moves. After giving yourself a name and a type, which changes your fighting style, you're done creating your fighter. But you can still choose to create a background, also using the system's camera to take pictures of real life settings.

You can store up to eight custom fighters. These can be used in both single and two player modes. In single mode, the game plays like a side scrolling action game where you must defeat 100 opponents to win. Two player mode plays like a one-on-one fighter, where you attack your opponent to make his life deplete.

2132401258.jpg
2132401259.jpg

Even in two player mode, you'll only use a single DSi to play Photo Fighter X. Nintendo has come up with a control scheme that allows both players to share the system.

When played in single player, the controls look like this:

2132401260.jpg

From top top bottom, the moves are move, jump, duck, kick, punch, fireball, and special move.

Left and right moves your character left and right, up jumps, and down ducks. Any of the face buttons can be used as an attack. Attack used on its own will result in a kick. To punch, you push right plus attack. Fireball is left plus attack. Special skill is down plus attack.

In multiplayer mode, things get a bit tricky:

2132401264.jpg

For the 1P side, L is the attack button. On its own, it performs a kick. With down, it performs your special skill. Brace yourself. When facing right, right and L performs a punch and Left and L performs a fireball. When facing left, left and L performs a punch and right and L performs a fireball. Does your head hurt yet?

To be honest, the controls probably won't matter much. Once you see the videos at the game's official site, how can you resist handing over 200 yen just for the novelty of finding things to turn into fireballs.

You'll get a chance at Nintendo's customized fighting game on the 16th. The asking price is, again, just 200 DSi Points.
