Zelda's Special Stylus

Nintendo has been awfully quiet regarding Zelda Spirit Tracks here in Japan, but today the silence was at last broken with the opening of a new official site for the game.

The site looks a little something like this:

Looking for things to click on? Look hard, because there isn't much there at present. The site is in a teaser state.

The only clickable area takes you to this:

That's an image of the transparent feather touch pen Nintendo will be giving away to buyers on launch day. This is a early buyer bonus, so there's technically no need to pre-order (there usually isn't either way), but you'll want to get to your game shop early to make sure stock doesn't run out.

Zelda Spirit Tracks hits here on December 23, priced at ¥4,800 and carrying the full Japanese name of Zelda no Densetsu: Daichi no Kiteki. The game is scheduled for release outside of Japan earlier in the month. Check with your local representatives to see if Nintendo has a similar promotion in the works for your part of the world.

Developer Cinemax has released a trailer of their upcoming DSiWare title Snakeoid

Snakenoid is an unique blend of the "Snake" and "Arkanoid" game concepts. Using the stylus the player controls a snake on the lower screen and tries to use it to bounce the ball destroying boulders on the upper screen. In each level the boulders are organized in a different shape.

At the same time the snake has to avoid enemies and may collect bonuses, falling out of the destroyed boulders. The aim of the game is to finish all the levels with the most points.

House M.D. checking in on your DS

thumb_house_m_d_gregory_house.jpg

Mindscape has secured the rights to produce a game on the DS based on the popular TV program, House M.D.. The only details available state that you will not play as House, but as one of his underlings. You'll be doing consultations with patients, performing mini-game like operations, and piecing together puzzles. Since House plays the DS quite frequently in the TV show, I wonder if they'll sneak the House game into a scene!

The mystery Namco Bandai game is Tales of Keroro Quest DS

As we have previously mentioned, Namco Bandai will be announcing a new game in about four days. Because of some detective work, however, we may already know what the title actually is. Someone has matched up the symbols present in the teaser countdown page with Keroro Quest Cards. This seems to indicate that the game is Tales of Keroro Quest, possibly for the DS. Obviously, this isn’t official yet, hence why we’re marking this down as a rumor for now. We’ll find out for sure if this is a Keroro game in a few days.

New DS game unveiled – Project Monster, from Henry Hatsworth devs

From the creative minds that brought you Henry Hatsworth comes an innovative action adventure exclusive to the Nintendo DS.

project-monster-20091106042707021_640w.jpg

Project Monster (working title) comes from developer DreamRift; a company that is made up of previous development teams that combine talent from all over the industry, including work on Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, The Red Star, Dementium: The Ward on DS, Guitar Hero III, and most recently notably from the Henry Hatsworth crew. With a large chunk of the original Hatsworth team splitting away (over 85%, including the company founders which were actually lead programmer and lead designer respectively on Hatsworth) DreamRift has been working tirelessly on a new original IP. Project Monster takes the concept of combining gameplay mechanics, as well as retaining a lot of what made Hatsworth so fun on a core mobility and combat level, and brings it together in an all-new experience.

I've had a chance to go hands-on with Project Monster, and even in its preliminary state the game is showing some serious promise. Combat is snappy, the lead character is adorable, animation is spot on, and the new gameplay hook is certainly an interesting departure from conventional gaming. I'm definitely looking forward to playing through the rest of it; now it just needs a publisher so I can.

As part of the game's debut I had a chance to sit down and chat with co-founder Peter Ong about the game, so while he'll touch on a few things in our interview section below I'll give a few quick comments out my brief time with the game. Your lead character (Ellie) discovers a magical monster by the name of Chomp, and like Hatsworth the entire game is played in tandem between classic Mega Man, Mario, and even Metroid-inspired gameplay while adding in a whole monster raising system as well. The concept was shown off in its preliminary form during the demo I played, with the ability to call in Chomp to put up defensive shields on the playfield, swoop in and attack enemies above and below Ellie with a ranged stretch attack, and even act as a trampoline for her to double jump all over the level. The more damage Chomp takes, the sooner he'll have to retreat back down to the bottom screen and take a rest. Items can be tossed down, which works into the whole monster customization system.

The game is looking great, but rather than give you the info second hand I'll pass the torch on over to Peter Ong, co-founder and creative director at DreamRift.

Game Boy von nun in Hall of Famer

gameboy.jpg
