The anticipation is escalating for Bandai Namco Games and Dimps latest DBZ adventure, Dragon Ball Xenoverse! Fans from around the world are so excited they have been playing the game in the great language of Japanese since its February 5th release on the Land of the Rising Sun’s PlayStation Network/Xbox Marketplace. However, the landscape is changing and players are taking their skills to a different level as some stores in the Middle East and Asia have begun to sell the game in English! That’s the game with both English text and the world famous English dub featuring the iconic voices of Sean Schemmel as Goku, Chris Sabat as Vegeta/Piccolo, and a beloved host of other fan favorites. With the powers of a Super Saiyan on his side, Anime Games Online has championed his way through the Xenoverse, saving the history of Dragon Ball from the villainous Demon God Demgira and returning the timeline to the legend we know. The journey was captured in video walkthrough form to be shown to all the aspiring Time Patrollers so that they could learn from the experience and show evil the power of good always prevails!
Dragon Ball Xenoverse was recently released in Japan, and the game sold 44,221 copies in its first week on PlayStation 3, and another 34,690 copies on PlayStation 4. In their weekly supplementary report, Japanese sales tracker Media Create shares a little more insight into how it performed.
Media Create says that the game sold a total of approximately 80,000 copies across four platforms. Total sales of the PS3 and PS4 versions amounted to 78,911 copies, so the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions barely made a dent in Japan. (Although, obviously, those and the PC version of the game are meant for the Western market, rather than the Japanese one.)
Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 version of the game sold through 89.25% of its shipment, while the PlayStation 4 version sold through 89.14% of its shipment. Given the high sell-through, it would appear that the game has outsold the expectations of retailers.
Initial sales of Dragon Ball games are usually around 50% of accumulated sales, so Dragon Ball Xenoverse should hopefully end up selling around twice as much as its launch week sales in the long run.
Food for thought:
80,000 across four platforms for a Dragon Ball game was “better than retailers expected”. Make of that what you will.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse is here with the first post release piece of DLC in Japan. Below you’ll be able to see the two different Create A Character costumes in all of their shiny metal glory.
Once you download the pack, they’ll instantly be in your inventory! No need to go to the Armor shop for these costumes.
