Dragon Ball Super to Air in English Part of Toonami Asia

Dragon Ball Super is officially making its way outside of Japan to Toonami Asia! According to the press release below, the show will make its English debut mid-2016 in South East Asia (which we found includes countries like Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Maldives, Pakistan, and India).

Toonami Asia is a television channel in Asia and differs from the Toonami in America, which is just a programming block on the channel Cartoon Network. Toonami Asia’s name and concept are inspired by the American Toonami and both are owned by media company Time Warner. No word on when North America will receive the show, but if we had to guess, it would be around the same time. From Saiyan Island’s understanding, Toonami Asia uses American English dubs of the shows they air. That would mean FUNimation and Okratron 5000, the two American companies behind the English dub of Dragon Ball, will probably be working on it soon, if they haven’t already. Of course, we hope to let you know when Dragon Ball Super will hit American airwaves and any additional details regarding the Asian release as they are announced!

Toonami, Turner’s kids brand dedicated to delivering the best superhero and action-adventure animation in South and Southeast Asia, has snapped up the latest instalment of the Dragon Ball franchise from Toei Animation.

Dragon Ball Super is the first all-new Dragon Ball television series to be produced in nearly 20 years, and will make its pan-regional launch on Toonami in mid-2016. It will be an exclusive first-run premiere on Toonami in Southeast Asia and India, which will also be its English-language world premiere.

“This announcement is huge for fanboys and girls in Asia. Dragon Ball is undoubtedly the original and world’s biggest anime export, and is a cornerstone of our programming on Toonami,” said Mark Eyers, Chief Content Officer for Turner’s Kids Networks in Asia Pacific. “Since the channel launched in 2012, Toonami has been airing episodes of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai, and to premiere Dragon Ball Super demonstrates the channel’s continued commitment to securing must-have and must-see content, first on Toonami.”

Reuniting the franchise’s iconic characters, Dragon Ball Super follows the aftermath of Goku’s fierce battle with Majin Buu, as he attempts to maintain earth’s fragile peace. Overseen by Dragon Ball’s original creator, Akira Toriyama and produced with Fuji Television, Dragon Ball Super will draw on its historic past to create a bold, new universe welcoming to fans and endearing to new viewers.

Introduced as a manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, Dragon Ball has evolved into a globally beloved brand. Seen around the world, with over 230 million copies of its comic books sold, Dragon Ball is one of the most popular anime franchises of all time.

Series Synopsis: The threat of Majin Buu has passed, and Goku and friends are finally living in peace. The day of Bulma’s birthday party arrives, and everyone gets together again for the first time in ages. Then Beerus, the God of Destruction, appears. Goku gets his friends’ help to become the legendary Super Saiyan God, and gets into a fierce fight with Beerus, but he’s not quite as powerful as the God of Destruction. Beerus ends the fight, and informs Goku of a shocking fact. This universe where Goku and crew live is only one of 12. What’s more, each universe has its own God of Destruction, which means there might be opponents out there even stronger than Beerus! The story now moves into a new phase. Now the world of Dragon Ball reaches a new dimension that’s beyond imagination.

It’s Sunday morning in Japan, which means an all-new episode of Dragon Ball Super! In today’s episode, episode 19 (Despair Once More! Revival of the Evil Emperor, Frieza), the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F saga begins. With it comes a few small, but exciting updates to the opening. At 45 seconds in, we see Frieza and three of his sub-ordinates, followed by a transformation of gold to Golden Frieza. Then at the 55 second mark, flashes of blue are seen to signify Goku’s transformation to the form once known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan – Super Saiyan Blue (SSB)! At the end, Jaco and Pan make an appearance, Gohan has a new hair-do, and Goku and Vegeta are seen with their Whis-symbol attire.

Dragon Ball Super: Search for Super Dragon Balls, Tournament Prize (RUMOR)

The excitement of Dragon Ball Super just keeps increasing with each passing month! Every week, there is a new episode that airs in Japan and every month there is a new manga chapter that gets released. The first four chapters of the manga previewed events the month before they happened in the anime. Chapter 5, however, jumped forward even further beyond, skipping the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F saga the anime is currently showing. Spoilers from chapter 6 of the manga have been revealed thanks to Herms from Kanzenshuu. Due to the fact the chapter has not been released yet, we at Saiyan Island ask you to please take these as rumor for now until the chapter is released. Once we see the chapter, we’ll remove this statement and update with actual material, if it’s different from what’s below.

- Super Dragon Balls are the original Dragon Balls. They are the size of planets and have less limits imposed on them than the Dragon Balls we’ve seen in the series thus far
- The Namekian’s cut down pieces of the Super Dragon Balls to create their own.
- Champa has gathered 6 of the 7 Super Dragon Balls from Universe 6. It has taken him over a decade to do so. He is looking to switch the Earth’s of Universe 6 with that’ Universe 7. If we at SI remember correctly, previously it was revealed Universe 6’s Earth is full of war and destruction and whereas Universe 7’s is obviously peaceful.
- In the tournament between fighters from Champa’s Universe 6 and Beerus’ Universe 7, if Champa’s team wins, he will get to swap the Earths. If Beerus’ team wins, Champa will give the 6 Super Dragon Balls of Universe 6 to Beerus. However, Beerus will have to find the seventh Super Dragon Ball on his own.
- Universe 7’s team will be Goku, Vegeta, Buu, Piccol, and and a mysterious fighter who is supposed to be the strongest fighter Beerus has ever fought. Vegeta suggested Gohan to be a part of the team since he has the highest potential of everyone, however, Goku turned him down saying Gohan has a family to take care of.
- The rules of the tournament will be the same as the Tenkaichi Budokai with 1 exception – there will be a written test, per Vegeta’s suggestion to avoid brainless monsters from entering
- In order to find the Super Dragon Ball of Universe 7, the goal is to use Bulma’s newly-created Dragon Radar. However, because the universe is too big and the Super Dragon Balls are scattered among the galxues within the universe, the Dragon Radar can’t cover it all at once unless they go to the center of it.
- Jaco the Galactic Patrolman knows somebody named Zuno who might be able to share where the center of the universe is. Jaco mentions Zuno is a mysterious person who knows everything, even if he’s never met you, he’ll even know what pattern underwear one is wearing.
- Bulma’s sister Tights (who is from Akira Toriyama’s Jaco manga) makes her debut in the Dragon Ball series in a spaceship. Jaco and company use it to take their leave and meet Zuno
- Goku finally explains why he likes Chichi – it’s because she is strong-willed. Vegeta responds by saying this is how Saiyan women are and it’s why Goku likes her.
- Long ago on Beerus/Champa’s birthday, Beerus ate the “Puff-Puff Fruit” from Champa’s cake, starting a fight that destroyed many planets. As a result, the two avoided physical fights and only competed through food showdowns.

:shakehead:
