So I played Torchlight 2 beta a bit, and I can say the different skill and stat system Diablo 3 has really is a great improvement from the second game. Up until playing Torchlight 2 beta, I was kind of disappointed with Blizzard for simplifying the game too much, but now I realize how much convenient and fun the new system is, while maintaining the complexity the past Diablo 2 players are looking for.
About Torchlight 2 beta, the build is 0.15.xx, which is very early stage of the game, but I don't think they have changed some of the main aspects of the game that I find hard to adjust.
Every single item uses one single box in the inventory menu and while this solves the problem of the inventory tetris, it's very hard to distinguish one item from another at a glance.
Stat system still remains similar to Diablo 2. Some people love it, some people hate it, and I don't see any problem with it.
Your character moves at the speed of sound. Ok, maybe not that fast, but you can blaze past all the mobs without a scratch. It was very quick to get to an objective. I didn't feel like I had the luxury of enjoying the scenery and map design. Everything was just a blur. I guess some people may like it for fast paced, but when you accidentally click on a normal item instead of a magic item because the character moves too fast, it's annoying.
There are so many magic and rare item drops. I wasn't really happy when I was getting all the common 'rare' items and had to go through every one of them to pick out the best one.
Compared to torchlight, I really like how Diablo 3 restricts you to use only 6 spells at a time. It seems to make the game cluster-free and organized.
Sorry if my writing is shit, it's like 5 in the morning and I just quit Torchlight 2 feeling disappointed.
