6th KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple Video Anime's Promo Streamed

Shogakukan began streaming a ten-minute preview for the two new original video anime (OVA) episodes that will be bundled with the 55th volume of Shun Matsuena's Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi (KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple) manga. The OVA disc will contain two separate episodes, “Guard Shita no Hakaigami” (The God of Destruction Under Guard) and “Tokumei Kibou 18-sai” (Wanting a Pseudonym at 18-Years Old), which serve as episodes eight and nine in the OVA series.

In the preview, Ikki Takeda (voiced by Kazuki Yao) seeks to become the disciple of James Shiba, and says that he will not leave the front of his dwelling until he takes him in. However, Kenichi and his friends find an unexpected side of the buff fighter that isn't so noble...

Hiroshi Ishiodori is once again directing the project at Brains Base, and Eizō Kobayashi wrote the scripts. The preview video also includes some of the cast for the OVA:

Tomokazu Seki as Kenichi Shirahama
Rie Kugimiya as Miu Furinji
Yuzuru Fujimoto as Hayato Fūrinji
Juurouta Kosugi as Akisame Koetsuji
Unshou Ishizuka as Shio Sakaki
Issei Futamata as Kensei Ma
Hiroya Ishimaru as Apachai Hopachai
Mamiko Noto as Shigure Kosaka
Masashi Hirose as James Shiba
Houko Kuwashima as Castor

Shogakukan will ship the limited edition bundle in Japan on February 18.

Five original video anime volumes (with a collected seven episodes) were previously bundled with manga volumes since last year. The fifth original video anime volume (with episodes 6 and 7) shipped with the 54th manga volume on November 15. The manga already inspired a television anime series that Funimation released in North America.

The South Korean MMORPG game is currently in development for South Korea, Japan, and North America. An English website for the game is open.

The game lets players make a character from four different races: the tall and strong Gon, the curious and wise Jin, the beautiful and graceful Kun, and the cute and spiritually-tuned Lyn. The player can then train their character to become an Assassin, a Blademaster, a Destroyer, a Force Master, a Kung Fu Master, or a Summoner.

The anime adaptation will begin airing on Japan's TBS and BS-TBS channels in April. The Anime Japan 2014 event will host a cast talk show on March 23 with Yuki, Ohara, Amamiya, Takagaki, and others.

The Wind Rises UK Release Details

A representative of Studio Canal has confirmed that it will be handling the release of The Wind Rises, which will open in the UK on May 9. Like Studio Canal's previous releases of Ghibli films, it will be released in both dubbed and subtitled formats. (The American dub features the voices of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt, together with Mandy Patinkin, Martin Short, Stanley Tucci, Werner Herzog and Elijah Wood.)

The film is a historical drama about the aeoplane designer Jiro Horikoshi in the decades leading up to World War II

As of writing, the Film Distributors Association website is still listing the release as being handled by Paramount, but Studio Canal confirmed this is a mistake.

Appleseed Manga Gets New CG-Animated Film by Shinji Aramaki

The IGN website reported on Tuesday that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and the Japanese studio Lucent Pictures Entertainment are producing Appleseed Alpha, a new CG-animated film of Masamune Shirow's science-fiction manga Appleseed, this summer. Shinji Aramaki (Starship Troopers: Invasion, Space Pirate Captain Harlock) is returning to direct this new project after helming two previous CG Appleseed films. Joseph Chou (Appleseed: Ex Machina, Halo Legends) is producing.

The new film will be "a reboot that will depict the early days of Deunan and Briareos in search of the legendary city of Olympus." IGN posted the first image from the film.

The original manga follows Deunan Knute and her bioroid partner Brialeos in the futuristic city of Utopia, where human terrorists are battling government's ESWAT forces. Dark Horse Comics publishes the manga in North America. The manga inspired Kazuyoshi Katayama's original anime video project, Aramaki's two previous CG films, Takayuki Hamana's Appleseed XIII CG anime series and a cancelled Appleseed: Genesis CG television anime series.

The Japanese government reported last year that Lucent Pictures (Berserk: The Golden Age Arc trilogy) received 50,000,000 yen (about US$500,000) from a fund to support international film productions — specifically, for a "Project Alpha," a tentatively titled joint-Japan/U.S. animated work. Lucent Pictures filed a trademark on Appleseed Alpha in November.
