First off the game is vibrant and beautiful, and whilst I'm so used to playing Blizzard or Valve games where textures are high quality in terms of artistic merit, NCsoft Seoul have obviously done their homework in terms of graphics. Not only that, it's so nice to play an Asian developed MMO where mobs and other players alike aren't moving like stilted robots. Everything is as smooth as butter - from me casting my spells as a Mage and slowing down the mob, to seeing a Warrior run by and pull off a move to finish it because I am out of mana. Great to see them put a fair amount of polish into the animations.
They've also gone and rethought the reason why WoW is so hugely successful worldwide and why so many Korean developed MMOs absolutely suck. Yeah I've only played less than an hour of the game but I've barely had any downtime or moments where I've felt like I'm grinding just because the developers got lazy. Quests are the usual "kill such and such for x amount" or "gather items needed to bake a cake" but it's still early days into my character. Flying isn't unlocked from the get-go so I'm assuming quests might get a bit more varied when that opens up.
At the moment I'm just fooling around and I haven't got up to level 10 yet where I can branch off onto two further classes, so I'll probably provide a bit more when that happens. Only two bad points so far - having to spend money to change your "hearthstone" location, and the end-game potential in regards to PVP. Other than that it seems like a good MMO... and having a giant stingray/dragon hybrid fly over you near the start is always awesome.

So far it's taken the spirit of WoW and redone it all with its own flair and style. Still early days and I suppose we'll find out how well it does play when we get around to it.

The game acts and feels like Lineage 2 to me. In fact, I'd call it the enhanced version. But don't let that fool you! At first glimpse this is how I felt but the more I progressed, the better I felt. So the first image here (http://i39.tinypic.com/23w8hfo.jpg) is what I got to see for the first time. Awe looking stuff. The area's felt great and everything was quick on respawning. When it rains, you pull out a big leaf (http://i41.tinypic.com/11j7ifl.jpg). I guess they really meant by this world being alive. Because with just everyone in standing, animations going on or moving or whatever, things are always active. But the further I progressed, the more impressive this game got in terms of looks. (http://i42.tinypic.com/16ae1p1.jpg). Duel wield baby! Btw, the class I chose first was the Scout.
As far as combat. Simple and down to the point. You have your action bars at the bottom (which you can add two more if you so desire on top of the two at the bottom, and one on the right side). As you progress, you'll learn new skills that you can purchase. Eventually you'll lean into a sort of combo system to where you use one skill, which allows you to activate the next skill for a type of finisher. I can see where this can be something of a crazy task towards end game but I haven't done much to judge. The interface is clean. Easy to navigate in finding your quests with a tab that marks your map of where you can find area's, npc's and locations of monsters that you need to go kill. As you can see in this pic (http://i42.tinypic.com/qqeira.jpg) how the UI looks like. Along with quest tracker information on the right of the screen. And for a more close up look of it, check this out (http://i44.tinypic.com/2dalpbn.jpg). Animations for combat are very fluid.
Now, as you quest you get some pretty awesome cutscene like movies. All in game. Just to give you a preview: (http://i40.tinypic.com/10nfi9t.jpg). And lastly as far as transportation goes, I am not sure if there will be any mounts. But as far as travel goes, you will have two options. One is a sort of "flight master" that you can travel from one major point to the next in a large area. Which looks like this (http://i43.tinypic.com/awut1y.jpg). The other way is by portal. Found in the same area's. Portals will transport you from one zone to the other. Here are what the status look like (http://i44.tinypic.com/2yv037t.jpg).
In conclusion, from leveling 1 - 10, I had a good time with it. Once you reach lvl 9, you will be treated with questing out to what you'll progress to. Pending on your starting class. For example of my class, the Scout, you will be offered two choices. Ranger and Assassin. I rolled with Ranger. Still can't find any damn arrow yet. To be determined. Will it change people like me from going from WoW to Aion? I can't say for sure at all. Not right now with what I've played. It's hard to judge MMO's for what they really stand and offer. They're all about the same. But in the end, after I obtained my lvl 10, I was treated with some end quest cutscenes of being called a hero and welcomed. Made me feel pumped and fucking awesome for what I accomplished. Just looking over what I get to go through next (http://i39.tinypic.com/2hrem1z.jpg) has me looking forward to playing more. By the way, I got wings bitches! (http://i39.tinypic.com/52bdpu.jpg) This could the third means of transportation but you have a time limit of how much "fly time" you have. Combat is also done in air. Oh the many possibilities of PvP. Anyway. That's my preview. I'll toss up another for a lvl 10 - 20 scene. That is if my time warrants it.
Mallika schrieb:Patching went far better than I thought it would be (seeing how some people on another forum were saying it took them hours, but I suppose I got in at a lucky time as it finished for me in about ten minutes). I exited the launcher and I was able to just drop the ENG patch straight into its designated folder, go into the game, and boom! English. Awesome.
Obligatory screenshot of my priest (I think she's adorable):
So I've been in the game for about 20 minutes. Preliminary thoughts on this first contact with Aion:
- It's smoother than even I was hoping.
- The music is awesome.
- Seems they spent more time on character textures than on environment textures.
- Pretty cool that they have options like locking the compass to North (which makes it so that the mini-map doesn't twirl around), disabling click-to-move (I immediately disabled it), etc.
- The movements (strafing, running around in general, etc.) are as smooth as WoW; it actually FEELS right to me, and this is a huge thing because every game I've ever played afterwards (even though I loved a couple of them -- like LotRO -- much more than I loved WoW) just didn't have the same smoothness when you moved, strafed, etc. Probably has to do with how the camera works, too.
- It's very pretty.
- I only have, like, 2 spells right now on my priest, but the spell animations are quite nicely done -- smooth, and the sounds when they hit the mob give you a sense of impact, if you know what I mean. Can't wait to see more "showy" spells.
- The character animations are well-done. None of the awkwardness of LotRO, for example.
- If all keeps going this way, Aion will actually meet and even perhaps exceed what I was expecting. I try not to have high expectations/hype for a game (especially an MMO one, seeing as how everyone promises the world and delivers a continent), but it was hard not to be when the devs showed stuff in the various official Aion presentation videos. After trying it out for a few minutes, I have to admit I am even more excited about being able to play when it releases the English/International version.
The word that keeps coming up for me is "smooth" -- animations feel smooth, combat feels smooth, moving feels smooth. I'm hoping the game will keep on being this way.
They say stuff when they cast (my priest says "Shihuruke"when she casts the spell Retribution of Earth, and says "Shizubenpis" or something like that when she heals). It reminds me of Street Fighter, when the characters yell out signature moves. :lol
Question:
Does anyone know if there's an option to do self-casting by default if there's no one selected? I have a healing spell that will heal anyone I target in a certain range, but it's kind of annoying to have to press F1 to select myself before being able to cast it. Beh.
Edit: I moved my heal onto the upper hotkey bar and now I can cast it on myself by default without having to use F1. Dunno if that has anything to do with it, though.
By the way, you know how in combat you sometimes have these golden directional arrows pop up? Those are for enhancing your combat -- like, if you move backwards, forwards, or strafe according to them, your combat (be it your defense or offense stuff) gets enhanced a little. It was kind of cool seeing it in motion after seeing a video about it. No wonder they say they're rewarding people who move rather than stay in one spot (I am more of a 'stand in place' person, but I guess it's a good idea to get used to moving, because of PvP later on). Though of course as a level 2, it doesn't really make much of a difference to me. When I cast an offensive spell the mobs are already at about 35% health left.![]()
wenns so beschissen ist bzw war, wieso habt ihr es dann gespielt?
