Du sagst es. Aber über mir ist schon das Unheil die Hater sind schon da.
http://www.plat4mer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=39&Itemid=60One of the most impressive aspects about this game isn't the amazing visuals, it's something we see and most likely take for granted or not even notice in real life. Moths and other bugs gather and play around the lights, smoke and debris are tossed about the ruined city streets by heavy winds as hot ash and seemingly the devil himself dances around a fire created by a downed transport. Power lines swing violently overhead to the music that a raging thunderstorm above creates with streaks of lighting and clashes of thunder. Running down an alleyway we catch a glimpse of a light-bulb, flickering on and off as it tries to hang on to the last remaining moments of its life before burning out. Concrete pillars are ripped to shreds by stray bullets revealing the twisted and rusted rebar underneath while propaganda begins to blare over a loudspeaker nearby. Yes, this is one game that makes sure it's environment is as involved in the action as you are.
On top of all that "corner-of-your-eye" candy, Guerrilla Games managed to sneak in a First Person Shooter, to boot! Stepping into the world of Killzone 2, you take the lead as an all-new character: Sev. Rather than have the second game in the series dish out the same-old, Killzone 2 changes environments and puts Sev on the planet Helghan. No longer are you protecting Vekta as an ISA - you're attacking the Helghast on their own turf as part of a new elite special forces known as Legion. The pleasantries stop there.
The traditional control scheme and gameplay elements of a normal FPS is all there - point, pull trigger, watch die. This time, however, Killzone 2 takes a tip from Killzone: Liberation and borrows a much-revamped cover system Guerrilla Games aptly calls: Lean and Peek. Running around the streets getting shot at from multiple directions is never a fun time, so looking for cover will be number one on your to-do list. Most shooters these days implement some type of cover system - hold down this button and you'll prop yourself up against some immovable object in third person where you can magically see over walls and around corners. Killzone 2 uses this premise but throws in an extra large cup of "I don't think so". You never leave the first-person view and most of the walls or objects you'll find yourself behind are destructible. "Hey no fair!" Such is life, kid, deal with it!
While you may be thinking that you'll at least know where your enemies are, don't count on it. This institutes something I like to call 'Blitzkrieging' - thinking too fast - because you'll need to. The Helghast might just take advantage of the fact that you can't see them and plan to flank you while others lay down surpressive fire. You can fire out blindly or use the left analog stick to lean yourself around the corner or over obstacles to take a more progressive stance while behind cover. Make no mistake, your time behind that plaster wall is limited, the Helghast are out to kill you.
Killzone 2 wastes absolutely no time with letting you savor the moment, you are constantly engaging the enemy and looking for the next cover. Killzone 2 manages to blend the aspects of both the 'scoot-n-shoot' and 'tactical' style first-person gameplay into one seamless engagement. Adding to the current state of realism is another small but important detail: you can only carry two weapons at a time. This means you'll have to make the tough choice to swap weapons from dead enemies as you go - it's a very unique style of gameplay.
To satisfy the deviant in all of us, Guerrilla Games institues a remarkable animation system they like to call: Hit-Response System. The idea behind this system is that any real human being, when shot, will react differently depending on where they are shot, with what type of weapon, and the velocity of said projectile. Guerrilla Games achieves some of the most realistic bodily convulsions we've seen in a video game to date. Using both motion captured animations and rag-doll physics, the Hit-Response System seamlessly blends the two together for a truly visceral experience. How they manage to blend mo-cap with real-time physics is beyond us here at Plat4mer, but we can assure you it sure is ghastly. To finish the horror off nicely, your enemies will die with some extremely painful mo-cap animations as they are dropping to the ground where they finally settle into rag-doll physics again to properly fall asleep for the last time on any surface type. Gruesome? Bloody? Oh we love it alright!
