IGN schrieb:At long last, Sega is officially kicking off the hype machine for the its first next generation fighter, Virtua Fighter 5. Although first shown in trailer form at E3, today's JAMMA arcade show in Japan marked the first time the game has appeared in viewable form for the public eye, and the first time we were able to capture it for you with our video cameras!
The game's one minute trailer begins with Akira practicing his moves in what appears to be a temple, a red interior with bronze statues in the background. The footage cuts to Aoi, who's in a ring located in a Sakura-filled garden. Kage is the next to appear, in the same stage as Aoi. The footage switches to Lion, appearing in the same stage from which Akira kicked off the clip.
Vanessa takes things from there, bringing with her a new city stage, with neon signs in the background and water on the pavement below. Goh, Sarah and Jacky follow in the same city stage. Lei Fei introduces a new stage, a temple on a snow-filled mountainside, and both Shun and Jeffrey follow. Next, we see Brad and then Wolf appear in a second city stage, this one with spectators, some of whom are standing inside a building.
One classic background returns. Pai appears next on the Great Wall of China with a glaring, evening sun in the background, and she's joined by Lau, who we almost didn't recognize, what with the evil look on his face.
Following the Virtua Fighter 5 logo, the trailer cuts to clips of two new characters. The first is a young girl who spins around on the floor like she's break dancing. The second character is a masked wrestler who appears in one of the city stages shown earlier in the video.
The old cast is back, complete with at least two new faces, but even more notable in the trailer are the amazing visuals that are provided by Sega's new Pentium/NVIDIA based Lindbergh arcade hardware. The character models, stage geometry, textures and lighting effects are the best we've ever seen in a fighter, and that includes the footage we've been shown of other next generation fighting games. While some of Sega's other Lindbergh games didn't strike us as looking too next generation (we'll have further details in a bit), Virtua Fighter 5 is, without question, a major leap beyond Virtua Fighter 4. And, judging by the trailer, the game seems to run in wide screen, high definition, just like House of the Dead 4.
But enough of the reading -- get with the downloading! We've made the Virtua Fighter 5 trailer available for download, uncut, as filmed with our cameras off the JAMMA floor. The quality isn't direct feed, but you should get a good idea of how great Sega's next generation fighter looks.
