Final Forza 3 preorders hit 180,000 as Modern Warfare 2 and New Super Mario Bros Wii continue to lead the way...
First a quick note on the preorder charts - this is something that VGChartz has been publishing for nearly 3 months now and in that time we have found that our preorder numbers generally end up about 10% too high when the more finalised week one figures for the games are produced. Since only two of the seven normal sources of data are able to provide us with preorder information, there are always going to be larger margins of error in this data, and this week we have made some adjustments to our methodology to hopefully make the data more accurate. As with all data on VGChartz though, this is just a guide - formed from a fairly small sample of data, and anybody using it should be aware that there are margins of error (+/-15% on each game would be reasonable). So since we've tweaked the scaling factors, all games have been adjusted down since last week - we feel these current totals are more representitive of the current preorder situation.
So on to the figures themselves, and a number of games set for release next week are posting some strong figures. Forza 3 preorders hit 180,000, which looks good for an opening week of 250-300,000. DJ Hero looks like having a solid opening - 150,000 preorders over all versions suggests an opening of over 200,000. Tekken 6 also looks good for 250-300,000, the PS3 version well ahead of the 360 version in preorders - a now common pattern for fighters.

Looking ahead to November and Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Assassin's Creed II continue to dominate the preorder charts, based on current preorders and rate of increase we expect Modern Warfare 2 to have an opening week of over 4 million in the Americas (70% Xbox360), New Super Mario Bros Wii to hit around 1 million units week one, and Assassin's Creed II to hit over 850,000 (60% Xbox360). Left4Dead 2 should also see over 350,000 units on week one - in all it should be a very strong November for the industry.
