There's absolutely no reason why a game released in 2008 should have a bug where characters can fall through solid ground and into some pseudoabyss.

Interestingly, multiplayer action fares a little better, as long as one player focuses on guns and the other on melee weapons. In fact, Too Human's cooperative mode as a whole is far more entertaining than the single-player experience -- not only does it involve a tiny bit more strategy when two players are going at it, but it also has the additional benefit of not having the horribly animated cut-scenes or rudimentary plot of the single-player experience.

7,9 Punkte von HD-Room...

Cheers:

Accessible and initially fun combat
Stellar visual and audio presentation
Narrative worth finding out "what happens next"
Deep RPG options
Online co-op

Jeers:

Combat's limitations grow tiresome
Redundant enemies
Not enough to "do" outside of RPG customizations
No sprint button slows down traveling

@Darji:

Too Human has a unique setting and some compelling ideas, but it doesn't offer enough variety to stay fresh from start to finish.

IGN:
7.5 Presentation
The story has its moments and is woven into the game well, but that’s the extent of it.

8.0
Graphics
Streaming everything to do away with load times does come with its drawbacks, but the art design is quite good.

9.0 Sound
Excellent voice acting and music, only slightly marred by a few sound bugs and repetitive battle chatter.

7.5
Gameplay
Deep customization options and heaven for loot drop fans. The forgiving death system and auto-scaling enemies make the combat feel unrewarding.

7.5 Lasting Appeal
If you get hooked, you’ll be here for months. People who don’t love collecting random loot won’t get hooked.

7.8 Good OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Deprived of a decent storyline, innovative mechanics, and limited variation in either enemies or environments, Too Human is barely worthy of a weekend rental. It's an extremely repetitive treadmill set in a world you'll never get a chance to actually learn anything about thanks to the almost complete lack of exposition. Whatever points it scores for its somewhat interesting approach to combat are almost instantly retracted once you perform them for the umpteenth time on the same robot that fights in the same way. Unfortunately, Too Human can't even provide decent graphics at a consistent framerate, as graphical hitches and choppy visuals are a regular occurrence. All of these negatives leave little reason to recommend Too Human.

Wie ich vermutete, sind die Wertungen zwischen 70%-80% (okay, eher 60%-80% ;)):

Review: All you haters take note: Too Human is a blast!

The environments boast secrets and forking paths, and random ambushes strive to make your umpteenth time through an area fresh, but it's ultimately the inspired intermingling of the disparate abilities bestowed on partnered players that makes Too Human worth playing. After logging more than two dozen hours on these battlefields, the long resurrection sequences and flakey targeting still drove me up the wall, but the unpredictable online alliances, the varied loot, and rewarding combat kept me going back for more. No, it's not perfect but it's still pretty damn fun.

......................

Only overly high expectations will cause anyone walk out of Too Human disappointed. For a game that runs 13 hours cover to cover, there's a ton of replayability to be had, so in terms of sheer value, Too Human is certainly worth its price tag. Though the game was clearly made with multiplayer in mind, which may make the single player experience both a bit less interesting for some, the ability to play online with a friend, even if it's in random spurts, will likely be more than enough reason for hack-and-slash fans to sink upwards of 40 hours into this game.
Whether you're looking for a relatively deep action game, a solid co-op title, or another RPG to sink countless hours in to, Too Human fits the bill. And that makes the game a success, regardless of the hype, the controversy, and all the drama surrounding it.
The Good

  • Source material is interesting and well-used
  • Great depth in character customization
  • Strong combat engine
  • Sharp graphical presentation
  • Drop-in, drop-out online co-op
  • High replayability
The Bad

  • Controls aren't for everyone
  • No split-screen co-op
  • Menu and camera need work
  • Some distracting graphical bugs
  • Cyberspace portion of game is too linear
  • Difficulty balance is off as a result of A.I., death penalty
The Ugly

  • Getting over the drama and just enjoying the game for what it is.
Verdict: Buy
