SOCOM III: U. S. Navy SEALs is my favorite online game for the PlayStation 2 thus far. It has an excellent mix of the best elements from Battlefield and Rainbow Six, both of which are games I love. The singleplayer is pretty good this time around as well, but really, it's all about the multiplayer. With vehicles, expansive environments featuring multiple points of interest, 32 player support and new game types, SOCOM III is everything you could ask for in a sequel. Hardcore fans of the series were going to pick this up anyway, so this review really only serves as a confirmation of sorts that their money will be well spent, and well spent it will be. Gamers who've yet to take the plunge into the world of SOCOM, especially the online portion of that world, would do well to pick this up pronto.
Presentation 9.0
The menu system and weapon loadout screens are slick as hell, and the campaign's story excellently presents the various villains. Still, a more personalized story would have been nice.
Graphics 7.5
Some stuff looks great, like the soldiers, vehicles and buildings, while some of the land is rather basic with regards to pure poly count. A little hit or miss most of the way through, but mostly hit.
Sound 8.5
Great gun effects and excellent music, even if it sounds like every other semi-future war game around.
Gameplay 9.0
The singleplayer is good, but as always, online multiplayer is where this game shines. Vehicles, bigger environments and more, the mix of Battlefield and Rainbow Six play elements is exceptional.
Lasting Appeal 9.5
A whole handful of great modes, bunches of maps and one hell of a good game, this could last you a whole long time online.
