Detailed in this week's Famitsu, Dimensions offers arranged versions of both classics. Galaga has become a 3D shooting game called Galaga 3D Impact. Pac-Man has become a side scrolling action game called Pac-Man Tilt.
Galaga 3D Impact puts you up against the invading Galaga armies in what looks like a 3D shooter with the player piloting from a cockpit view. The action is on rails, with your ship flying automatically through a fixed course. You'll have to simply look around and aim. This is done via gyro controls, where you physically move the system around to turn your viewpoint.
As you move the system around, you'll feel like you're a pilot seated in the cockpit. If you look down towards your control panels, you won't be able to fire at anything, as the ship's window won't be in view.
Famitsu does not say if standard controls are also available (although most of the games we've seen that have gyro controls -- Zelda and Steel Diver, for instance -- do have standard controls as well).
Pac-Man Tilt is a side scrolling action game featuring a fully legged and armed humanish Pac-Man (you might remember him from those side scrolling Pac-Man games Namco used to release). Your goal is to lead Pac-Man to a goal, jumping and making use of gimmicks along the way.
The "Tilt" part of the name comes from the fact that you can tilt the 3DS to make the stage tilt. Famitsu's description makes it a bit unclear if this is how you actually move Pac-Man or if base control is with left and right on the d-pad. Regardless, the tilt controls do appear to be central to the game.
In one sample sequence, Pac-Man is on a platform that's suspended from above. By tilting the 3DS, you can make the platform swing, sending Pac-Man flying to great heights. In another example, Pac-Man is on a platform which can be tilted to form a path to different roads. Expectedly, there's also a pinball stage.
While the Pac-Man in Pac-Man Tilt is usually in human form, you can also make him transform into ball form. This is useful for clearing tight passages, as the more compact ball-shaped Pac-Man will just roll through if you create a slope.
Pac-Man Tilt also has enemies. Monsters will come chasing after Pac-Man. To fend them off, you'll need to eat some power pellets. (Did you know that power pellets are called "Power Cookies" in Japan? Now you do!)
