Microsoft Games Studios - Soho has been tasked to bring the very highest production values to a variety of family entertainment products. The Soho team are working on several exciting and diverse creative opportunities in this space. Building on the success of Kinect, the interactive entertainment business is once again out to change the world of family entertainment. By creating enriching experiences that both educate and delight we are taking Xbox, Xbox Live, and Kinect to new audiences in ways never before dreamed.
To accomplish our mission the London Soho Studio is seeking a games industry Game Designer to work across multiple production titles, prototypes and incubation projects.
The role of a Game Designer will be focused on creating and writing detailed game design mehcanics that are fun and innovative. Game Designers are expected to bring their creative skills to bear in a wide range of situations, always with raising the quality of the title they’re working on. Living up to the exacting standards expected of an internal Microsoft team is both a challenge and a responsibility and we’re looking for individuals that have something unique to bring to this studio.
They will have prior experience of the games industry and will have a deep seated passion for expressing their ideas and creativity. This role reports directly to the Soho Studios Creative Director.
Key Accountabilities
As a Games Designer you will be responsible for guiding game features and game activities from concept to final product. This includes being able to generate design documentation, break down the documentation into specific elements and work with the art and code teams to implement and tune those elements into polished gameplay experiences.
Key Success Criteria
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1) Essential Experience
Demonstrable ability to design detailed game mechanics from inception to completion
Work as part of a team, including artists and programmers to fine tune these game mechanics
Understanding of games production pipelines and processes
2) Technical/Functional Skills
Familiarity with basic scripting or programming languages such as LUA, Kismet or XML
Familiarity with 3D modeling or level building software like Maya, Max, Skethcup or UnrealEd.
3) Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Diligence and attention to detail
Passion for console and PC games and good gameplay instincts
4) Qualifications
Experience in the games industry on a console project
