Glancing at the list of nominees for the Spike TV Video Game Awards, I wasn't too shocked to see what got nominated for Game Of The Year, and once again disappointed in what didn't get nominated. While the games that were nominated were surely deserving, it's pretty easy to say that there was 1 more deserving game that did not make the list.
Killzone 2 came out at the beginning of 2009 with a ton of critical acclaim and anticipation amongst Playstation 3 die hards. It delivered the best visuals we have ever seen in a console game, an extremely deep multiplayer with excellent community/clan features and a single player campaign that was definitely worth a play through. Many still consider Killzone 2 to be the flagship shooter game for the PS3, which is arguable with Uncharted 2's multiplayer being just as, if not more stellar. But nonetheless, isn't it safe to say Killzone 2 brought more uniqueness to the FPS genre than say... Left For Dead 2? What about Modern Warfare 2; which don't get me wrong, is a fantastic game, but is really just a rehashing of the first Modern Warfare with new perks, killstreaks, weapons, and maps. In terms of innovation, shouldn't Killzone 2 at least get a nomination for the 5 years of solid work Guerilla Games put into this title?
Apparently not, as Spike nominated Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 all for Game Of The Year. Once again, these are great choices, don't get me wrong, but where's Killzone 2? Did the Spike TV "Game Award Committee" forget about this game, which did some groundbreaking things for it's respected genre?
