I think this is more about the journalists ego than genuine concern for readers. Stay calm guys, just buy it like the rest of us.

Aliasing, the stair-step visual artifacts, in PS5 games can be caused by several factors, including the use of Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA) and the rendering resolution of the game. TAA, while beneficial in some ways, can also introduce artifacts like ghosting and trails, especially with moving objects. Additionally, some PS5 games may have aliasing issues due to specific game engine choices or updates.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA):
TAA is a common anti-aliasing technique that combines information from multiple frames to reduce jagged edges. However, it can also introduce issues like ghosting and trailing behind moving objects, especially when combined with higher resolutions.

  • Rendering Resolution:
The internal rendering resolution of a game can also impact aliasing. If the game renders at a lower resolution and then upscales, it can lead to aliasing, especially when combined with TAA.

  • Game-Specific Issues:
Some games may have specific bugs or issues with aliasing that are not universally present in other PS5 titles. For example, some players have reported aliasing problems with War Thunder on PS5 Pro after an update, with symptoms like thin textures flickering and pixelation.

  • PS5 Pro-Enhanced Games:
Some games are specifically enhanced for PS5 Pro, offering improved graphics and performance, but this doesn't always mean that aliasing is completely eliminated. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, for instance, offers a new Enhanced Mode for PS5 Pro, but it's possible that aliasing could still be present in certain areas.

  • Game-Specific Solutions:
If you encounter aliasing in a particular game, you might want to check the game's settings for any options that control anti-aliasing or resolution. Additionally, some games may have updates that address aliasing issues.
In short, aliasing in PS5 games is a complex issue that can be influenced by various factors, and while TAA and rendering resolution play a role, some games may have specific bugs or issues that require individual solutions.
