Dragon Ball Xenoverse: 6 Players, 126 Characters, and 24 Stages?

The 2014 Japan Expo took place last week and game producer Masayuki Hirano was at the event giving a presentation on Dragon Ball Xenoverse. In his presentation he showed off footage (watch it here) of Goku taking on Vegeta and Cell. Just before the battles begun, like in many games, the characters and stages were selected. This gave a quick look at what the character select screen and stage select screen may look like. Keyword MAY as the game is under development so things could drastically change.

Anyways, right above the icon for Vegeta are “L1″ and “R1″ buttons to switch pages in the character select. The build shown at the event had a yellow highlighted “1″. Using our skills in Photoshop, Saiyan Island filled in the space designated for pages and found there could be a maximum of 6 page icons. Since there are a total of 21 characters on page 1, we deduced there would be 126 slots for a maximum of 126 playable characters (21 slots below x 6 pages = 126).

We say maximum because if you recall for Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, there could have been 50 playable characters since there were 5 pages of slots with 10 characters each. Page 5, however, only had 4 of the 10 slots occupied and 3 of those slots were the custom characters, leading the final roster count to be 41.

Also, based on the character selection screen, it looks like there could be up to 6 players who can battle at once. If you look closely you will note there are six shadows for selected characters. Saiyan Island has marked them each with an arrow. It’s likely there could be up to 6 selected for online, if even true, as local gameplay on PS3, Xbox 360, and PS4 can only support 4 controllers.

Still, if the game can support 4 player battles locally, that would be quite interesting. Based on a screenshot released a few weeks ago we can see Goku and the Mysterious Warrior take on Vegeta and Nappa in what seems to be a 2-vs-2 battle.

In terms of stages, we see 24 total (3 of which are unlocked and 21 locked). Like the character selection screen, this might not be the final roster screen. Hirano-san has mentioned things can change.

Lastly, is an interview conducted by French website Yassuke with Hirano-san. The interview was originally in French, but a roughly translated English version is below. It reveals the game will focus on the Dragon Ball Z storyline roster, although based on our understanding, the door for Dragon Ball GT characters is still open. Our personal opinion is that we won’t see DBGT characters because Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (the latest movie) overwrites some of the points from that series, but again, nothing is confirmed at this point.

New Interview Reveals Game Under Development for Over 2.5 Years

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is making it’s way to the Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation 3, Micosoft Xbox One, and Microsoft Xbox 360 to North America, Europe, and Japan. A release date has not yet been announced. It hasn’t even been specified what year (2014 or 2015) the game will come out, just that it is in development. Details about the game are limited, but a new interview thanks to Treevax from the 2014 Japan Expo with Masayuki Hirano at publisher Bandai Namco Games and Masahiro Kashino at developer Dimps reveals a few small tidbits related to the game. The video below also includes the Dragon Ball Xenoverse presentation given at Japan Expo, interviews with Bandai Namco community staff, and a bit of commentary of things learned. The

From the interview, which starts at 33:40, here are some of the highlights:

First of all, the game has been in development for over 2.5 years. It will be completly different from Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z. Xenoverse is developed by Dimps, while Battle of Z was by Artdink. The team behind Dragon Ball Xenoverse heard the criticism Battle of Z received and are confident fans will be pleased with this latest Dragon Ball fighter.

Secondly, it’s confirmed the game will be more than 1 vs 1. Put another way, 1-vs-1 is in, as seen in footage, but it’s not just restricted to that. Could there be team battle? Or up to 6 players brawls? That much is unannounced at this point in time.

Third, story mode isn’t an open world affair like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 on the Sony PlayStation 2. The game’s concept isn’t to explore the Dragon Ball world, but to intervene with it.

Fourth, the game will feature characters beyond just the Dragon Ball Z series. Does that mean DBGT and DB is included? Could beyond the series mean including DBZ movies and specials? Or, does it mean original characters created for the game? That is also unannounced at this point in time. They just mentioned it will go beyond the main story and have a robust roster.

Fifth, manual ki charging will be making a return. It wasn’t in Dimps’ previous DBZ game (Burst Limit), but the development team is working on implementing it in Xenoverse.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse: Balance Key on 4 Platforms

The 2014 Japan Expo took place a few weeks ago in the great city of Paris, France. We were able to see gameplay footage and learn some info on it’s development through a detailed interview. Now, from the same event, French website GameGen shares a new interview. They had the opportunity to speak with Dragon Ball Xenoverse game producer, Masayuki Hirano! Hirano-san talks about the game’s graphics, music, destructible environments, and about finding the balance when developing the game on 4 platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360! ....

Character Creation Confirmed

It’s happening! Bandai Namco Games and developer Dimps is answering our call with character creation confirmed in Dragon Ball Xenoverse! Players will have a wide variety of customization options to select to make the character their own. Some of the things confirmed based on the new screenshots are the ability to select the gender, the clothes being worn, the hairstyle, and the character’s race – Earthling, Majin, and Namekian.

The character customization goes hand in hand with the game’s story mode. The Mysterious Future Warrior that we have been seeing is indeed a custom character. So you (or your character) are the mysterious future warrior who travels back into time to possibly alter the history of Dragon Ball as we know it! It all starts when Trunks summons you to a secret mission. He’ll put you through a few tests first along with other potential warriors in the futureistic city, an online hub, known as Toki Toki City. From there on your journey will begin! Not much else has been revealed, but more details are expected to be released in the future!

3 Klassen?

Erdlinge
Majin
Namekianer

Also keine Sayajins.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse European Network Test Open For Registration

About a month ago, the Japanese Dragon Ball Xenoverse page launched its open beta registration and fans have been trying to enter thinking it may have been for Japan only.

The wait is finally over, now you can register for the English open beta which starts on October 4th.

Thanks Micheal Johnson for the tip.

New Characters Unveiled

New characters from Dragon Ball Xenoverse have been unveiled! They may look familiar to you and that’s because they’ve been seen before in the universe of the now defunct Dragon Ball Online – Towa and Mira! The other two characters, who we presume are friend, are new to the Dragon Ball universe. In the second picture you will see the Supreme Kai of Time and Tokitoki. At this particular moment there isn’t any additional information in regards to the characters, although with the Tokyo Game Show coming up later this week, we can expect a brand new trailer!

Dragon Ball Xenoverse Is About Saving The History Of The Series

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, you’ll play as a mysterious character who will participate in fights throughout the main Dragon Ball Z series. Bandai Namco’s latest trailer for the game tells us what’s exactly going on in the upcoming game.

The trailer starts out with a look back at some iconic fights, followed by a message saying that the history you’ve come to know has changed and so has its ending.

Everything about Dragon Ball is in danger, and it’ll be up to you, the hero of hope, to make things the way it should be. Your character has been summoned by Trunks, through the Eternal Dragon Shenron, to fix the alternate history.

While we’ve yet to figure out what exactly caused the problem, it looks like your character will have to go through various events from the Saiyan to the Buu Saga.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse will release in Japan sometime in 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
