Catherine multiplayer modes detailed
This week’s Famitsu unearths surprising new details on Team Persona’s first high-definition game,
Catherine. The love triangle action game will feature a local multiplayer component!
The magazine’s preview has the first look at the game’s title screen, where we see four options: Golden Theater, Babel, Colosseum, and Configuration.
Golden Theater is the main story mode, where protagonist Vincent finds himself caught in a love triangle between his girlfriend, Katherine, and newcomer, Catherine. This mode offers three difficulties of play: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Playing on Easy will allow you to use a “Redo” feature, although the magazine doesn’t explicitly say what it does.
Past screenshots of
Catherine have shown an odd-looking watermark located in the corner of certain scenes. This is the logo for Golden Theater, an in-game television program in
Catherine. When the player starts up the game for the first time, Golden Theater host, Midnight Venus, introduces Vincent and friends. Midnight Venus is a character herself, sporting a ridiculously large red afro. It’s speculated that the entire game is an episode of Golden Theater.
Babel Mode revolves around the game’s action segments. It has four stages of tower climbing, which are unlocked based off player performance in Golden Theater mode. Two players can participate in this mode, however, not simultaneously.
Colosseum, a competitive mode, also offers two-person play. This mode
is simultaneous, pitting players head-to-head as they climb up a tower. Players can hinder the progress of their opponent, however, Famitsu doesn’t say how. This mode is unlocked after completing Golden Theater mode.
Catherine features online functionality, but not in the multiplayer aspect. Famitsu has a look at the game’s trophy list, and another more interesting area. The Confession Room, detailed
earlier this month, asks players multiple choice questions, where your responses determine how you progress.
Catherine offers online graphs that show how other players, of both sexes, responded to these questions.
Catherine launches for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next month in Japan. A demo will launch on the PlayStation Store and Xbox LIVE Marketplace (in Japan) later today.
