E3 09: Sony Blows Away the Competition at E3
Sony's E3 keynote press conference is now over and everyone is reeling from the amount of games announced exclusively for Sony formats and for the amount of games that were demoed on stage.
The PSP Go! was officially showcased at E3, with Sony joking it was "the worst kept secret of E3". To coincide with it's release this fall at it's high price point, Sony announced Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Resident Evil Portable and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. They also showed Fat Princess running on the PSP, so it is expected that the game will be playable cross-platform.
Sony announced continued support for it's PS2, even after 10 years has completed, as Jack Tretton stated, "as long as consumers want it, we will sell it to them".
The PlayStation 3 line-up was packed full. Sony showed live gameplay of Uncharted 2, MAG, and God of War 3. They also showed a trailer for Gran Turismo 5, which clearly stated in the bottom right corner "WRC: World Rally Championship" and "Nascar", so it seems like Sony has officially licensed them to be included in the Real Driving Simulator. The trailer also showed damage on the cars, so that's right everyone, GT is getting damage.
The three most shocking announcements of this conference were the announcement of "Agent" a new exclusive IP from Rockstar, Final Fantasy 14 exclusive to PS3, and a quick trailer of Team ICO's, The Last Guardian.
Sony also showcased it's motion controller, that boasts superior tracking than Nintendo's WiiMote. Microsoft shocked the world yesterday when they announced Project Natal, and announced a late 2010 release. Sony announced that their motion controller would work with the current PlayStation Eye and will be releasing in Spring 2010.
Sony also announced a new game in the "Play, Create, Share" genre called Modnation Racing, a racing kart game that allows you to customise your character and car, as well as design your own levels and share them with other users over the PSN.
I think it's safe to say that Sony "won" E3, but hey what do we know we're biased, right?
