This post by codinthepocket looks at the Wii and whether there are any hardcore Wii gamers out there. Remember, If you want to get on the front page, then just swing by the Sarcastic Gamer User Blogs and get writing. As always, we’ll be keeping a vigilant eye on the blogs for the cream of the crop, which will end up here. And now, over to codinthepocket…
Are hardcore Wii players as fictitious/elusive as Bigfoot? That’s what I wanna know.
The Wii is basically built to entertain one key demographic - children who buy a game because it has a picture of an animal, a tv show or an animated movie on the front. For instance, making a game called Build-A-Bear Workshop: A Friend Fur All Seasons is not going to appeal to a FPS player. I mean honestly, a Build-A-Bear game? Are Nintendo fricking kidding me? What are we going to see next? Time For Teletubbies: Dipsy Does The Gardening? Rodentz? Ultimate Duck Hunting? Oh, wait a minute. They actually have made the last game. My bad.
The point is, how can you be a hardcore gamer of a console that only makes games for money? As much as Nintendo fanboys would deny this, it’s true. Can you honestly say that their beloved company is trying to make brilliant games that appeal to less casual gamers, when they actually let Majesco release Freddi Fish in Kelp Seed Mystery? You can’t. Nintendo have gone from being a well-respected, brilliant games company and manufacturer, to a “batch-game” company, who release games purely to make money. They lost my respect.
I used to love Nintendo. They made some of my favorite games. Super Mario 64, Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Banjo-Kazooie are some absolutely fantastic games, but to go from Metroid Prime and Zelda: Ocarina of Time to Cooking Guide: Can’t Decide What To Eat? and That’s So Raven: Psychic on the Scene is just a disgrace…
Nintendo have been consumed by money-hungry people, who want to make as much money as possible by pretty much making as many TV-show, movie and just plain bizarre games as possible, for a huge cash sum, it frustrates me… and I know I’m not the only one. The games that are made have no purpose and even though Nintendo aren’t always involved in the development process, simply putting your name on such an abomination to gaming is wrong. What has the gaming world come to?
*sigh*
Occasionally, a great game will slip through the hordes of crap that flow out of the Nintendo HQ and when that happens, it suddenly gives the “nintendies” their window of opportunity to defend their console.
A simple conversation with one of them about this topic would go something like this:
Your Average Gamer: Can I ask you something?
Nintendy: This had better not be about that ridiculous “Nintendo are selling out” thing again…
Your Average Gamer: Well, kinda. Look at the sh*t Nintendo have released. Cooking Guide? I-Spy? Come on. You can’t deny it.
Nintendy: Yes I can. The Wii has Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Resident Evil, Metroid Prime, and loads more…
Your Average Gamer: Those are series continuations though. Name 5 good games that have been made for the Wii and DS that aren’t franchise continuations.
Nintendy: Erm… Wii Sports! Err… No More Heroes… Erm…
(30 seconds pass)
I’m out.
Your Average Gamer: That’s what I thought.
Nintendy: Well, Nintendo are innovative. Motion sensor controllers? Yeah! Nintendo 1 - Other Consoles 0.
Your Average Gamer: The graphics are last gen though.
Nintendy: No they’re not. They’re great. Look at Super Mario and Zelda.
Your Average Gamer: The power of the console isn’t enough to support high-res games and there is very limited online play.
Nintendy: But the Wii has a web browser! Ha!
Your Average Gamer: (massages forehead) There’s no point…
A typical conversation there, as you can see…
Hitting the crux of my rant though, Nintendo have simply lost touch with their former demographic of dedicated gamers who want a long-lasting, fun, exciting and innovative game. And what do Nintendo get out of it? Money. Lots and lots… of money. Lots and lots and lots of money…piles and piles and piles of money.
*Goes to Nintendo website to look for job opportunity*
This rant was brought to you by a former Nintendy who feels that Nintendo have cruelly parted ways with their former loyal fans.
Can Hardcore Wii Players exist?

Richtig @ beide Aussagen.

One of the more exciting game to come next year for the Wii is ‘High Voltage’s‘ first person shooter ‘The Conduit.’ Since it debut right before E3 many people were enthusiastic about the game’s unique control scheme, online multiplayer and good graphics. And let’s face it, the Wii and a game with good graphics does not come around very often.
One of the biggest questions since the game was announced, was which company would be publishing it. After a few month contemplating, High Voltage has finally confirmed Sega will publish ‘The Conduit.’
Sega of America President Simon Jeffery explains why they decided on the move:
“The Conduit is one of the most talked-about Wii games this year and High Voltage Software has only scratched the surface of the game in terms of what they have shown so far…They have proven that graphical and technological innovation can be exciting to the Wii market, and SEGA is thrilled to partner with a team that truly shares our belief in the Wii’s gaming potential beyond the casual market.”
While I think The Conduit is certainly one of the more exciting games to come out for the Wii. I’m just not sold on the idea a hardcore game is able to sell well outside the casual market. I understand that sometimes I come across as a ‘Wii Hater,’ but I want to reassure you that I’m not. In-fact, I believe the system includes some of the best games to come out for this generation.

However, a game like The Conduit probably won’t sell well — not matter how good it is. Most people who have bought the Nintendo Wii are looking for the casual/simple game — that’s why the hardware sold so well. The motion controls made it simple for the user to pick up and play. Take Wii-Play for example, which received terrible reviews but it sold incredibly well. And guess what, people actually enjoyed playing it. And their reason for their enjoyment — it was simple. So, a game like The Conduit might turn off a bunch casual gamers, but not because it’s bad. But because its ‘too deep.’ Even Nintendo shares this opinion — they’ve proved it at this past E3 when most games announced, were not geared towards their hardcore base.
On top of that, while gameplay is indeed important, first-person-shooters are generally rated high when the visuals look great. One of the main factors for graphics to be an essential part for this particular genre is because a FPS needs to be immersive. The player is playing through the eyes of the main character, if the environment doesn’t feel and act like a real world, it destroys the whole purpose. While The Conduit certainly looks good for the Wii, it doesn’t compare to games like Call of Duty or Killzone 2.
We don’t want to take anything away from High Voltage — what they have done for an underpowered system is astonishing. But we wonder, what would the game look like if it was on an Xbox 360 and/or PS3. I’m the end, hopefully I’m wrong because the developers deserve it to do well.
Komplett merkbefreiter Artikel. Der Verfasser hat ganz offensichtlich keine Ahnung, wovon er schreibt: "Even Nintendo shares this opinion — they’ve proved it at this past E3 when most games announced, were not geared towards their hardcore base." Sega Will Publish The Conduit: Why We Think it Might Not Sell Well

geh weiter weinenach gottchengeh weiter weinen

Ergibt irgendwie keinen Sinn
