London, 5 October 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced details of its exciting new PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) model that will launch throughout the SCEE territories on 10th October 2007 at the highly attractive price of €399.

Providing an incredibly appealing entry point to the world of High Definition gaming and entertainment for the holiday season, the new PS3 brings the next generation of interactive home entertainment to homes all across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia.

Along with an ever expanding line-up of PS3 titles (a total of 65 titles tracking across all genres by Christmas), the new PS3 is equipped with a 40GB HDD and includes all the features central to the High Definition entertainment experience; true next generation gameplay, stunning High Definition Blu-ray Disc™ movies, SIXAXIS™ wireless controller, Wi-Fi and HDMI connectivity, all powered by the Cell Broadband Engine™, the digital heart of PS3.

As with the 60GB PS3, the new PS3 features upgradeable firmware allowing new features and functionality to be added to the system as time progresses. A recent firmware update, for example, enabled PS3 to upscale DVD’s played on the system to full 1080P High Definition.

The introduction of the new PS3 has been determined following user feedback from thousands of existing PS3 owners as well as research into future potential PS3 owners. The new model features two USB 2.0 ports rather than four and no longer includes the multi memory card port.

The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation®2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas).

The existing Starter Pack*, comprising a 60GB PS3 with extensive backwards compatibility, an additional SIXAXIS wireless controller and two first party titles will be reduced in price to €499. Remaining on sale while stocks last, the 60GB model represents outstanding value for the keen gamer wishing to upgrade to the High Definition capabilities of PS3.

Jetzt erst offiziell? Naja, war eigentlich klar. Bin gespannt, ob es wirklich nur am Preis liegt, dass sich die PS3 suboptimal verkauft.

ausserdem, was mir gefällt is, das die 60 GB auch um 100 euro gesenkt wird!

also heißt es ab nun, nur noch 500er und 400er version!

somit sind die 600 euro endlich geschichte, wurde aber auch langsam zeit sony, hätte imo schon bischen früher kommen können, noch vor dem halo launch sollte das kommen!

hätte zwar nicht so viel geholfen aber immerhin!

naja, ich bin froh!

Die alte PS3 war auch nie 100% Rückwärtskompatibel, das war sowieso ein Schwachsinn. Wer spielt auf einer PS3, PS2 Spiele? Jeder Zocker hat sowieso ne PS2...

Nunja ... also die Rückwärtkompatibiliät war in meinem Bekanntenkreis immer das Totschlagargument für die PlayStation. Und wenn die KOMPLETT fehlt... naja. Es ist schon ein Makel.

Deine Freunde sind auch keine Edelgamer. Die würden ihre Kenstation auch niemals verkaufen. Somit ist die BWC hinfällig.

Für dich ist jede Kleinigkeit ein großer Makel, solange es nicht von M$ ist, eine Xbox betrifft.

Für mich war die Rückwärtsompatiblität nie sonderlich wichtig. Ich hatte Frühjahr 2001 eine PS2 und bis Heute kein einziges PSone Game gezockt. Für 399€ ist diese PS3 ein absoluter Preis/Lesitungskracher...

die 360core muß mit dem makel leben, keine hdd zu haben. so ist das halt mit den günstigen varianten. man kann nich alles haben...
denke, in spätestens einem jahr fliegt die EE mit der nächsten hardware-revision eh raus, und wenn die emu dann komplett softwareseitig ist, werden auch die käufer der billigen version per fw-patch BC bekommen

Als herauskam, dass die 360 keine 100% Abwärtskompatibilität hat, hieß es: "Wie schlecht, die PS3 hat 100%"! Als dann herauskam, dass alle PS3s auch nicht mehr zu 100% kompatibel sein werden, hieß es: "Na, und, alle meine Spiele laufen und sehen auch noch deutlich besser aus und die neuen laufen sowieso, denn auf der PS2 erscheinen ja immer noch Hämmer". Und jetzt, da die PS3 (zumindest im günstigen Modell) gar nicht mehr abwärtskompatibel sein wird, heißt es:"Ist doch egal, wer spielt schon PS2 Spiele auf der PS3!"

Rückwärtskompatibilität ist für die meisten schätze, genau so wichtig wie die neuen Online Marktplätze. Ich weiß noch wie böse ich war, dass ich 3rd Strike nicht ne zeitlang zocken konnte :cry:

Das ist ein Haarbusch, keine Abwärtskompatibilität, ohne mich, Sony, sagt bescheid, wenn das ding Abwärts kompatibel ist und ich dafür "nur" noch 399 zahle.

Das ist ja fast genauso schlimm wie das fehlende HDD bei der Core, dort gibt es den vorteil, man kann nachrüsten, was bei solch einer hardware komponente ja unmöglich ist

Wer PS2 Spiele spielen will, spielt sie sowieso primär auf der ps2, also was solls, ein Kritikpunkt für manche Leute kann es aber trotzdem sein.

Ach wisst ihr was, ihr seid einfach nur noch zu bedauern. Wenn die PS3 nur noch 200€ kosten würde, dann würdet ihr auch wohl auch über jedes Haar in der Suppe aufregen. Ist doch typisch Hater.

Hmmm...die Preissenkung ist natürlich klasse, aber die fehlende Abwärtskompatiblität doch ein sehr fader Beigeschmack. : /
