Firm Sues Sony Over Cell

A new suit filed against Sony Corp. of America says the PS3’s Cell processor infringes on an existing patent, and demands the “impounding and destruction” of all of Sony’s infringing processors.
ImageOn July 26, Newport Beach, Calif.-based Parallel Processing filed a complaint against Sony that alleges the infringement of patent no. 5,056,000, according to a filing obtained by Next-Gen.

The patent, “Synchronized Parallel Processing with Shared Memory” was issued in October 1991. It describes a high-speed computer that breaks down a program “into smaller concurrent processes running in different parallel processors” and resynchronizes the program for faster processing times.

Parallel Processing, the “exclusive licensee” of the patent, states in the suit, filed in the US District Court’s Eastern District of Texas Tyler Division: “On information and belief, Defendant Sony Corporation of America has infringed and continues to infringe on the ‘000 Patent by making, using, importing, offering for sale and/or selling products among other things, covered by one or more claims of the ‘000 Patent, including, but not limited to, Sony Playstation III [sic].”

Parallel Processing said that Sony’s alleged actions have caused “irreparable harm and monetary damage” to the company.

The plaintiff seeks damages, reimbursement of legal fees, interest and “the impounding and destruction of all Defendant’s products that infringe the ‘000 Patent.”

wenns stimmt wirds ausergerichtlich mit geld geregelt und das wars, auser die andere firma ist ganz böse verzichtet auf paar millionen und sony geht pleite, was aber net passiert ^^
 
Also ich finde es schon ziemlich komisch, wenn man sich "parallel processing" patentieren kann.
Dann sollte ich vielleicht mal versuchen mir ein "scheibenförmiges, auf einer transzendenten reellen Zahl basierendem Teil zur Verminderung des Reibungswiderstands beim Transport von Waren und Personen" patentieren zu lassen. Dann sieht die Welt aber ganz schön alt und ich ganz schön reich aus!

Ich glaube jemand muss von der Oberfläche verschwinden;-)
Naja ich glaube aber die müssen jetzt viel Kohle bezahlen wenn das wahr ist, ich mach mir keinen Kopf drüber;-)
 
Hmm diesmal scheint es wirklich keine Start-Up Firma zu sein, die sich erst neu ein Patent angemeldet hat:

Die können klagen soviel sie wollen, IBM, toshiba und sony sind finanzkräftig genug um eventuelle kosten zu zahlen. ;-)

und wieso fällt denen das erst jetzt auf?
seit wann gibts nochmal super computer mit hunderten von CPUs, die parallel arbeiten?
 
Wieder mal gegen Sony. Warum wird z.B. nicht gegen IBM geklagt, die den IBM Prozessor mitentwickelt haben. So ein dämlicher Unsinn.
 
Ist doch gut für Sony.
Dann können die die PS3 einstampfen und sofort eine ordentliche Konsole entwickeln.
Könnten sich vor den Usern sogar noch als Opfer präsentieren anstatt noch ein paar Jahre auf Platz 3 zu dümpeln. ;)
