Nintendo Forecasts First Full-Year Loss Since 1981der 3ds läuft doch gut, es wurden 15 Mio abgesetzt.
Dann geh lieber wieder in irgendeinen Verkaufszahlen Thread, da kannste dann abfeiern
Nintendo Co. has today more than tripled it’s full-year loss forecast as the company struggles to sell the Nintendo 3DS at the rate it expected. The company are now expecting a net loss of 65 billion yen, approximately $838 million, when financial figures are released in March. Nintendo originally expected to lose 20 billion yen in the fiscal year, but underestimated the strength of the yen. Forecasted sales for the Nintendo 3DS in its first year have also been downgraded from 16 million, to 14 million, despite heavy price cuts for the device.
This is the first full-year loss that Nintendo has had since 1981, meaning even during the days of the Gamecube, one of the least popular consoles last generation, the gaming giant managed to maintain a profit. Nintendo’s loss is mainly however, due to the strength of the yen as around 80% of its revenue comes from outside of Japan. This was highlighted in its third quarter earning release today, which showed that 53.7 billion yen was lost due to currency exchange. It is important to note however, that net sales were also down over the nine-month period year-over-year.
Some analysts have blamed the increased popularity of smartphones and tablets for Nintendo’s problems, but the strong yen seems to be the bigger issue for the company, which suggests the Wii U, Nintendo’s next console, will probably be more expensive outside of Japan than we first expected.
