Bigger than BioShock?
by: Gameplayer Staff 04/10/2007
Assassins Creed is looking absolutely amazing. In fact, those few lucky souls in our office whove seen the game in action have heaped some serious praise on the early code. One quote we heard with something close to disbelief was it puts BioShock to shame. Its a big call, and well know for sure very soon whether its justified, but as the anticipation builds we thought wed share with you ten other things you need to know about this awesome release.
1. Easy to Control: Assassins Creed appears to be a very complicated game, what with all the wall climbing, acrobatic flipping and dynamic combat. However once you get the controller in your hands, youll instantly fall in love with the intuitive control system, with the Y button controlling your vision, the X button your weapon hand, the B button your other hand and the A button your legs. The triggers then act as modifiers, turning a run into a sprint or a push into a tackle, for example.
2. Its Massive: It features three gigantic cities, Jerusalem, Acre and Damascus, plus plenty of countryside in between, and another small city thats home to your assassin headquarters. The game also has draw distance to burn, as climbing to the top of a church in the middle of Jerusalem reveals a sprawling spread of rooftops as far as the eye can see.
3. Horse Riding is Fun: There have been a few games with horses on the Xbox 360 so far; Gun, Oblivion and Call of Juarez come to mind. However none of them have provided a particularly fun horse riding experience. Assassins Creed is different. Not only can you casually trot past enemies, slashing them with your sword from the saddle, but you can also stand up on the horses back and leap off mid-gallop, landing in a combat stance or perhaps latching onto a second story window.
4. There are Many Ways to Kill: Its a game about assassinating people, so naturally it gives you a lot of ways to kill. In the hands-on time we had with the game at this years E3, we did everything from casually stabbing people in the kidney with Altairs retractable dagger before disappearing into the crowd, to throwing guards face first off the tops of roofs to splat onto the street below. Weve also been eying off his crossbow and throwing knives
5. You Dont Just Watch the Cut-Scenes: You control them. The whole time youre in a cut-scene you can continue moving around, enabling you to turn to the camera in a melodramatic Days of our Lives fashion when delivering dialogue.
6. Climbing is a Game in Itself: Climbing is a core part of the Assassins Creed experience, but youre not Spider-Man; you cant just scurry up perfectly flat vertical surfaces at will. You can only scale walls that you theoretically could in real life; walls with windowsills, jutting-out bricks and anything else that Altair can get a hand/foothold on. Thus reaching the top of some of the games tallest structures can often be a puzzle in itself.
7. Theres a Mysterious Sci-Fi Subplot: And mysterious sci-fi subplots make everything better. Just imagine how good that movie Terminator 3 would have been if Arnie had played a KILLER ROBOT FROM THE FUTURE?! Wait he did play a killer robot from the future in that movie? Hmm well anyway, theres a lot of evidence that suggests that Assassins Creed is some kind of virtual reality training for a modern day hitman, or it involves time travel, or takes place in some kind of Donnie Darko-esque parallel dimension. Whatever it is, the development team has confirmed that the mystery will be revealed to the player within the first ten minutes of the game.
8. Smart Enemies: If they have the numbers, theyll attack you from all sides. However, once one enemy has just witnessed you cut a couple of his mates in twain, hell lose every ounce of bravado and scurry off in search of reinforcements. Enemy guards will also react to anything suspicious theyre not going to turn a blind eye to you if they notice you clamouring up the side of a citadel.
9. Its Out Soon: This November, in fact. You probably ought to pre-order it.
10. Its Here to Stay: Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassins Creed will be the first game in a trilogy, with at least one of the two follow-up games taking place in the future. With the epic Halo trilogy coming to a close this month, it looks like Assassins Creed is set to kick off another blockbuster saga this November.
Warum is Jade Raymond eigentlich eine Göttin?
