http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/heavenlysword/story.html?sid=6170952&tag=topslot;action;2Sony and developer Ninja Theory finally showed off more of the game at a recent press event which featured a dedicated presentation and a new playable demo. Though the presentation and demo were brief, the game still managed to show very well and leave us wanting more.
Still, the game feels best when you're in the air, zooming around from place to place and tangling with ground forces or desperately trying to evade a bogie on your six. Control seems to be as tight as ever, and some of the jet designs are just plain cool.
Based on what we've seen, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is poised to easily become one of the PlayStation 3's big guns this fall. The game appears to have the rock solid gameplay that's made a name for the series and its beefy visuals, building upon the ambitious work done in the PlayStation 2 games. ... We're incredibly anxious to see more of the game and pick it up to get a feel for what's coming.
The game looks beautiful, thanks in no small part to the entirely new graphics engine it's running on. The characters are among the most detailed and lifelike we've seen to date--especially in cutscenes--with some spotty lip-sync animation being the only thing that broke the illusion in the demo we tried. ... In addition, a trailer shown at the event indicated that Drake will get caught up in all kinds of trouble. So we're confident that Uncharted will turn out to be more than a Tomb Raider knockoff in the final analysis, especially given Naughty Dog's nearly spotless track record in the last few years
By far the most surprising game at Sony's San Diego Gamers Day was the RPG Folklore. Previously known as Monster Kingdom: Unknown Realm, and bizarrely titled Folks Soul in Japan (thank-freaking-goodness they changed the name for here), it's a pleasant surprise from the folks who brought us Genji. Garnett somewhat famously referred to Folklore as "the best looking RPG you've never heard of" at the Tokyo Game Show last year and was absolutely correct in his assertion then and still is today. Folklore yet again came out of nowhere -- and yet again wowed everyone with its stunning visuals. Mixing color-rich high-def environments with characters featuring an almost Tim Burton quality to them, Folklore has a brilliant visual style. At times, its dreamy colorful world reminded me of Akira Kurosawa's Dreams.
Thankfully, based on the demo we played today, Folklore actually plays just as good as it looks. As we described last fall, you take control of two characters -- Ellen and Keats -- and set out to uncover the legend of a mysterious village that exists on the edge of dreams and reality. What's rather unique about the game is its mechanic of stealing enemies' souls once they're weakened in battle. You accomplish this by holding down the L1 trigger button and tilting the controller upwards until you've captured the soul - it's very Ghosbusters, but it's a pretty cool use of the Sixaxis. (I do wonder if I'd feel the same after a few hours of continued play, though). What's neat is that after you've absorbed a soul you then have that enemy in your inventory and can use it in battle -- you can map different ones to your four face buttons to use at any time. And different ones are obviously more helpful for certain situations or against certain other enemies.
As before, the taste we got today left us very impressed. Folklore may be the best looking RPG you've never heard of, but be prepared to now hear lots more about this one in the coming months; it has us quite excited
