PS3 Sengoku Basara 4

Why Sengoku Basara 4 Sold Far Less Than Sengoku Basara 3

Sengoku Basara 4 was released in Japan on January 23rd, and the game sold 176,313 copies, and sales tracker Media Create reports that the game saw a sell-through of 67.91%.

Additionally, as previously reported, Sengoku Basara 4 sold less copies at launch than Sengoku Basara 3 did on PlayStation 3, back when it was released in 2010. Sengoku Basara 3 on PS3 sold nearly 243,000 copies. Additionally, it sold another 50,000 copies on Wii.

So, why the lower opening sales for Sengoku Basara 4? Media Create say this is due to stagnant “non pre-order sales”. This would indicate that Sengoku Basara 4 managed to sell to fans of the series, but failed to gain traction among the broader audience.

In the case of Sengoku Basara 3, an anime adaptation of the series had helped increase its launch sales beyond those of 2006’s Sengoku Basara 2 (135,850 sold). Due to the fact that there was no such promotion prior to the release of Sengoku Basara 4, sales dropped off.

Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi announced for PS4, PS3

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Due out this summer in Japan, the game adds new Japanese warlords and systems. There are 40 playable warlords, whereas the previous game had 33. The PlayStation 4 version will run in 1080p at 60 frames per second.

New playable warlords who previously appeared non-playable include Ashikaga Yoshiteru (voiced by Shuichi Ikeda) and Kyogoku Maria (voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro). Sen no Rikyu (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) is an all-new playable warlord, who fights with a folding fan and has a double personality.

One of the game’s new systems is called “Battle Roulette.” With this, a roulette will appear on-screen when you meet certain conditions. The medals you earn via the roulette can be exchanged for a total of 167 different prizes.

Just as Tales of Zestiria has a collaboration with Sengoku Basara 4, Sumeragi will have a collaboration with Tales of Zestiria. The game will feature costume downloadable content for characters such as Sorey and Mikleo.

Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi Collaborates With Tales of Zestiria

Today, Capcom announced Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi, an updated version of the game, which will also be on PS4.
Details from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine reveal that the game will have a collaboration with Tales of Zestiria. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

While the magazine didn’t go too far into specific details, it reports that the collaboration with Tales of Zestiria will include costumes of Sorey, Mikleo, and others for Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi.

We’ve yet to hear anything about a Sengoku Basara collaboration on the Tales of Zestiria side, but with the game releasing in two days, we might hear of one last surprise before its launch.

Additionally, the magazine reveals three new generals that will be playable in Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi.

Ashikaga Yoshiteru: He was an NPC in the original game, but he’ll be back using a sceptor as a special form-changing weapon with different modes between katana, spear, and bow. A certain skill will bring out a roulette, which changes the style depending on what you get.

Sen no Rikyu: Rikyu will fight using a fan, and is said to have some sort of split-personality disorder going on, which changes according to the type of move you use.

Kyugoku Maria: She was also an NPC in the original game, but she’ll be playable this time around, using her long cloths as whip-like weapons.

Finally, the game will also introduce a “Battle Roulette” system. This system will have a roulette appear on the screen upon meeting certain conditions, and depending on what you get, it’ll give you a different way to play. You can collect medals from the roulette, and can be exchanged for special items, with a total of 167 of them to collect.

Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi will release in Japan this summer for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The PS4 version will run in full HD and 60fps.

The theme song to Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi is “Double-Deal” by T.M. Revolution, Capcom announced at today’s Basara Festival 2015.

The first trailer for Sumeragi was also shown, which will be released online sometime tomorrow, February 2.

Takahiro Sakurai, the voice actor for new playable warlord Sen no Rikyuu, appeared as a surprise guest. Sen no Rikyuu is described as a psychic character with two personalities named “Wabi” and “Sabi.” His story is said to be laced with intensely dramatic developments and ends on a highly poignant note.

Additionally, Capcom took the stage to announce the “Sengoku Basara 10th Anniversary Project,” which will be carried out between July 2015 to July 2016. We don’t know what will come out of it—be it a new game, anime, or other media—but Capcom has published a logo starring Date Masamune. The official anniversary website will open at 10:00 Japan time on February 2.

Thanks, Games Talk.

Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi Japanese limited edition and bonuses announced

Capcom has issued an official press release following Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi‘s Japanese release date announcement in Famitsu this week.

The game will launch in Japan on July 23 or 6,990 yen on PlayStation 4 and 5,990 yen on PlayStation 3. A “21 Piece Hobbyist Box” limited edition including 21 add-on costumes and a 24-page art book of said costumes will retail for 11,990 yen on PlayStation 4 and 10,990 yen on PlayStation 3.

Capcom also unveiled two types of free, limited run add-on weapons.

The first type is for Ashikaga Yoshiteru and is obtainable via a product code and included in a limited number of boxes. Dubbed “Rinne Genkou,” the weapon lets Ashikaga change his standard attack element from Quake to Light. When an elemental attack lands with this, it does additional damage and either make them faint immediately or more prone to reaching that state.

The second type is a series of four weapons that consumers can obtain by pre-ordering the game, which will net buyers a code that can be registered at the game’s website.

The initial registration period during preorders is from April 18 to June 7, though codes will cease distribution from stores after May 24.

The pre-order weapons are as follows:

Hyouryuu (for Masamune Date) – Can change his standard attack from Lightning type to Ice. His elemental attack can be used to freeze enemies and stop them in their tracks.
Seitou Tomurai (for Ishida Mitsunari) – Can change his standard attack from Dark type to Sense type. Landing an elemental attack can make enemies apathetic to player’s presence, as well as make them attack indiscriminately, including their own allies.
Koukosou (for Ishida Mitsunari) – Can change her standard attacks from Fire type to Light. It has the same effects as Rinne Genkou on enemies.
Mikawa Danuki (for Tokugawa Ieyasu) – Can change his standard attacks from Light type to Wind. Landing an elemental attack does extra damage, with each attack landing multiple hits and building up chain combo numbers.

See a video of the weapons in action below. View screenshots, including shots of Tokugawa Ieyasu’s T.M. Revolution collaboration outfit, at the gallery.

Juli in Japan.
