Das ist die letzte bekannte Info afaik:

No More Sengoku Basara Games For The West?

If you’re a fan of Capcom’s Sengoku Basara series ( a.k.a Devil Kings on the PS2 ) and are looking forward to the newest installment, Sengoku Basara : Utage ( which releases in Japan later this year ) then you’re not going to happy to hear the bad news.

According to a response by Christian Svensson ( Sven ) on Capcom Unity community forums regarding the future of Sengoku Basara in the West, the situation doesn’t look too promising.

Sorry mate. Basara is Japan-focused and meant only for that territory.

Guys, I understand your interest and passion for the title, but there’s no way you’re going to convince me that a significant enough number of people are going to buy a Basara title in North America at a reasonable price point. We’ve tried twice now across two generations.

We released the last Basara title in two SKUs at budget price points ($29.99 SRP). There’s no way you’re going to convert the last outting’s performance, regardless of what shortcomings you perceive, into a 6X – 8X performance in revenue for future titles.

Not every title that’s made needs to be released in the West if the game has a sustainable base in Japan.”

Sengoku Basara 4 Will Be About The Making Of The Sengoku Period

Capcom recently revealed new characters for Sengoku Basara 4, which is said to take place in a parallel world set in the Muromachi period. To commemorate the occasion of their latest announcement, series producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and director Makoto Yamamoto talked about details surrounding the characters along with some new features to Famitsu.

As previously reported, the keyword that defines the upcoming fourth installment is “Sengoku Genesis,” which was revealed when the game was first announced in late March during a Basara festival. The meaning behind this concept is that, Sengoku Basara 4 will be about the “making” of the Sengoku period. This is the reason they chose the Muromachi period for the setting, as it was the era that ended just as the Sengoku period had begun.

Sengoku Basara 4 will include Date Masamune and Ishida Mitsunari, who’ve previously appeared in past installments of the series. Famitsu asks why they were chosen to appear in the upcoming game.

“Up until now, we haven’t properly portrayed how Masamune came to power. That’s something we’d like to properly show off,” says director Yamamoto. “Mitsunari, too, who appeared in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, was only portrayed after the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which we’d like to cover the new drama surrounding him as the vassal of Hideyoshi. For this reason, those who haven’t played any of the previous titles won’t have anything to worry about.”

The above is a look at Shima Sakon and Katsuie Shibata, who will be making their debutsin Sengoku Basara 4. Famitsu asks what we can expect from them.

Yamamoto explains,“Both of them are of a much younger generation when compared to Masamune or Mitsunari. They are considered rookies among commanders.” He adds that Sakon is living in a world where he no longer knows where to go or what to do, so he has decided to follow Mitsunari.

“A dice roll is what determines his actions, which goes with his love for gambling and light-hearted personality. It will be interesting to see what kind of chemistry he will share with the many straight forward people who are lined up in Toyotomi’s (Hideyoshi) army,” adds producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi.

“Sakon’s actions are characterized by his acrobatic movements. He will have two styles which can be changed with a single button, and it will look cooler the more you try it out,” Yamamoto explains about his fighting style.

Ashikaga Yoshiteru (pictured above) is another character who’s been recently revealed for Sengoku Basara 4. According to Kobayashi, he will not be a playable character, but an enemy commander. If you compare the Sengoku Genesis to a casino, Ashikaga’s role will be that of the dealer, as he will have a high-ranked shogun’s position, which is much higher than the other characters. His position is even higher than those of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi in past installments.

As previously reported, Ashikaga’s weapon of choice is a sceptre that has the ability to transform into other weapons. Yamamoto says he’ll be changing its forms by spinning it around, as something similar to a roulette feature.

Famitsu concludes the interview with a message for the fans from the director and producer.

Yamamoto: “We’re plunging into a new chapter, so we’ve made it a point to have something new for the fans of the series to enjoy, and those who don’t know anything about it will be able to enjoy it, 100%. By all means, please take this opportunity to further expand Sengoku Basara’s loop.”

Kobayashi: “I’m relieved we were finally able to announce more details on the game. I’m also very eager to hear about the impressions of those who are reading this right now. The game can also be enjoyed as a pure action game, too, so please look forward to it. Again, we’ll be revealing the latest information along with a showing of a trailer during the upcoming Stage “Sengoku Basara” Military Commander Festival 2013 (July 13-14th,) please look forward to that, as well!

Sengoku Basara 4 is slated for release in early 2014 for PlayStation 3.

Sengoku Basara 4 Reveals Three More New Characters

Sengoku Basara 4 will take place in a parallel world of the Muromachi era, which was considered to be the making of the Sengoku era in the history of feudal Japan. We recently got a look at three new characters in Katsuie, Ashikaga, and Sakon, who will be making their series debut in the game. Now, Capcom have shared a peek at another three new characters on their official website.

Starting from the left, we have Yamanaka Shikanosuke, who was also known as Yamanaka Yukimori, and was originally a samurai of the Sengoku era in Japanese history. His distinct antler-like headgear goes with the “shika” in his surname, whch means Deer in Japanese.

In the middle is Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the man Ishida Mitsunari has nothing but great respect for, and would do anything to help him and his army out, for the greater cause.

Finally, to the right is Takenaka Shigeharu. In Japanese history, Takenaka managed to impress Toyotomi with his spectacular tactics in taking over a clan and was invited to join his forces as a strategist. It has yet to be revealed as to what kind of roles the three characters will serve Sengoku Basara 4; however, Capcom will be revealing more details regarding the new characters, sometime next week.

Sengoku Basara 4 is slated for release in early 2014 for PlayStation 3.
