Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir PS4 Storybook Edition announced

Atlus has announced a PlayStation 4-exclusive “Storybook Edition” collector’s edition for Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir in North America, and a spring 2016 western release window for the action RPG remake.

The PlayStation 4-only $79.99 / CA$99.99 Storybook Edition includes:

- Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir for PlayStation 4
- 64-page Hardcover Art Book – Filled with the original drawings from the legendary George Kamitani and Vanillaware.
- Potion Recipe T-shirt – This large-size t-shirt is emblazoned with a helpful reminder of one of the more common uses of Alchemy in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir: turning the living Mandragora plant creatures (Habaneristos, in this case) into potions vital for survival.
- Collector’s Metal Slipcase – The PS4 game will come nestled in a special metal slipcase with the game’s key art on the front, and a not-yet-revealed image on the reverse.
- Art Print – Also included with the game will be a high-quality art print with another not-yet-revealed (but different) design.
- Premium Outer Box – All the contents in the premium edition will be packaged in a large, sturdy outer box.

The standard edition PlayStation 4 ($59.99 / CA$79.99), PlayStation 3 ($49.99 / CA$64.99), and PS Vita ($39.99 / CA$54.99) versions of the game will include a softcover version of the 64-page art book at participating retailers.

Here’s a rundown of the game, via Atlus:

Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is a total overhaul of the original PS2 game. From completely hand-redrawn graphics and refined gameplay mechanics to optimizations for the release consoles, the game fully encapsulates an artfully elegant tale steeped in Norse mythology with all the makings of a tragic opera. The five main characters each traverse their own storylines, be it as friends, lovers, or mortal enemies, punctuated with sharp, precise combat against fantastical enemies and dragons – Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir gives players the sensation of playing in a fairytale of Wagnerian proportions as the main characters all vie to regain stability in their world of warring kingdoms.

Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir’s Latest Trailers Are Both Classic And Refined

Classic mode, shown in the Odin Sphere: Leifthraiser trailer above, is almost exactly the same as the PlayStation 2 game. The only difference is, it looks better. The graphics have been updated for this release.

The Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir Refined mode is the one with all the changes. This version of the game has a new battle system based on Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Dragon’s Crown. It also has new animations for characters, additional voice acting, larger and new areas, and other improvements. It might prove more difficult, since there will be improved AI for enemies and extra bosses.

Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir will be released on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita next year.

Vanillaware Releases New Year Artwork By George Kamitani

To celebrate the New Year, Vanillaware has released a peice of artwork created by the game developer’s president, George Kamitani, which you can check out in the image above.

The painting appears to celebrate the beginning of the year of the Monkey in the Chinese calendar. While it doesn’t mean that Vanillaware is making a game that has to do with the art work, we’ve seen it happen before.
