Nintendo Store in the Works
Company building a new concept store in NY.
February 8, 2005 - According to a recently posted job opening at Nintendo's corporate website, the company is preparing to open a new retail store in Rockefeller Center, New York. The posting calls for a Retail Store Manager to oversee operations at a new concept store. The store promises state-of-the-art design and structure, and will boast everything from Nintendo themed paraphernalia to the newest software and hardware. The new outlet, which is yet to be named, will undoubtedly play host to a number of special events, such as software and hardware launch celebrations.
Interestingly enough, the Pokemon Center, which is located in the Rockefeller Center, is currently closed down for major operations. A quick jaunt over to pokemoncenter.com reveals the store will reopen as a "one-stop-shop" for everything Nintendo. The site also states the new concept store will feature a series of stations to try the latest games, and will carry various Nintendo consoles and accessories. Also on the site is the tentative launch date of spring 2005, when Nintendo expects its new store to open for business. Sony's Metreon store, located in San Francisco, CA, may offer a glimpse of what gamers can expect.
Sony celebrated the launch of its next-gen system, the PS2, at the Metreon store, and there's a chance Nintendo may do the same for its new console. While evidence is non-existent at this point, it seems a logical move for the company and wouldn't present much of a surprise.
