A new sci-fi RPG has been announced for the PlayStation 3 and PCs.
In development at studio Spiders Games, the game begins 200 years after the colonisation of Mars.
70 years ago the air was made breathable on Mars, but the planet began to change its orbit, causing increased radiation from the Sun's rays.
This radiation caused some inhabitants to mutate, resulting in two beings on the planet; "often divided, sometimes fighting the same enemies, both are the source of the advent of a new era."
Mars seeks to merge character development with rhythmic fights in a unique environment. The game will make the RPG experience more intuitive and gratifying by blending beat 'em up action with traditional RPG gameplay.
Spiders Games hope to create truly innovative gameplay, including the following features:
You can choose between two characters whose different stories intertwine and whose skills vary. Seth is a highly skilled elite soldier, whereas Pandora utilises devastating magic.
The game’s environment has been designed to be an asset in itself, or an important part of the gameplay, with lighting effects which create unprecedented combat situations.
The world created for Mars has been designed to offer a true voyage in the heart of a totally new universe mingling decadent futuristic technology and precarious survival on a planet with highly extreme conditions.
The storyline leads you to discover your own identity in a web of political intrigue and complex conflicts between forces, allowing you to better understand the world you are travelling. Many scripted sequences give rise to the action and storyline, creating unforgettable moments.
Combat is dynamic and spectacular, where confrontations are brief and take advantage of the environment and spells.
Sunlight is deadly on Mars, meaning you can use it in combat, such as making gaps in rooftops or using mirrors to expose enemies to the Sun's rays.
Mars features a credible and futuristic world, where your ability to adapt will ensure your survival and lead you through an unforgettable story.
A publisher has yet to be announced (the studio will be presenting the game to most publishers at Games Connection 2009 in San Francisco) but the website lists the PlayStation 3 and PCs as the game's available platforms.
