Nintendo Considering Wii U Mario Kart
Will characters from other franchises come to the series?
Mario Kart producer Hideki Konno is interested in bringing Mario Kart to the Wii U. In an interview in the newest issue of Nintendo Power, Konno said he'd like to expand the franchise to Nintendo's new platform, but couldn't reveal much else.
"I can't get into the specifics, but I do want to create a new and enjoyable Mario Kart that uses the unique functions of the Wii U," he said. "Anything beyond that I have to keep secret. Please bear with me for now!"
Konno also debunked the idea of characters from other franchises coming to Mario Kart, saying that "we've never seriously considered that."
Finally, while we knew that Retro Studios contributed design work to Mario Kart 7, we didn't quite know the extent of its involvement. Konno revealed that the company made significant contributions to Mario Kart 7's development.
"Knowing that Retro Studios had a strong track record and a long history of creating quality products with Nintendo, I asked them to collaborate with us on aspects like course and character design," he said. "The course designers and artists at both EAD and Retro Studios worked closely together to create what I consider to be very prolific and high-quality work."
