In a recent interview with PSU, Valve devs behind the Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 talked about their experience creating the titles on consoles. They go over the mechanics behind Team Fortress 2 (multiplayer class game, focused on exaggerated actions which we see through the unique artistic style they chose), gameplay modes and weaponry. Well, not weaponry -- they're keeping quiet about all that. No cross-platform play announced yet, but they dodged the question instead of denying it, so we'll see.
The meat of this interview comes from the question about advantages to working on next-gen consoles and if there were any differences in the PS3 or 360 versions that helped them out. Usually devs will say something like "not really, everything is jim-dandy", but Valve said "With the PS3, we can't exactly say what power cap we reached, since no developer really knows where the boundary is for the PS3. We can tell you that in terms of the whole game together on the PS3, we are not even using the SPU's and it is purely built on the graphics card and Cell." That's great news, especially when they claimed they were using about 93% of the 360's given power in their "current optimization". Regardless of power usage across consoles, both console owners will be getting a fantastic set of games and we can't wait!
