VR Vortek V3 virtual reality coin-op system
Global VR continues the success of its system-based arcade platform with the VR Vortek V3 ($8632), a coin-op system that has a more attractive price point and smaller cabinet dimensions for easier transport and installation.
For the non-arcade owners out there, the cool thing about the system is that it features a unique virtual reality hardware interface, 29-inch SVGA monitor, headset booth, built-in networking, and a PC-based software platform.
What this actually means is you can extend the life of the product by installing interchangeable software titles - there are already five titles available, including multi-player games. There just has to be a way to rig this puppy up for free plays!
Rule the skies with Saitek's flight sim cockpit
Rule the skies - and your living room - with Saitek's flight sim cockpit. Saitek's latest gaming accessory is a floor-hogging flight simulator cockpit that promises durability, comfort and adjustability. All you need to add is your stick and throttle (Saitek gear in picture not included) and you should have hours of gaming and earache from the missus. Having said that, the black plastic seat doesn't look as comfortable as the real thing and i'm not too sure I'd be able to get out was once I was in it. The stand-alone flight simulator cockpit is available now and will set flight geeks back $99.95.
50 classic videogames for the price of one
There's no doubt that kids are in awe at the latest videogames, but there's still a lot going for the games of yesteryear: cheap prices and alarming, but entertaining, graphics and sound. Nevertheless, with the 50-n-1 Video Game you can extend the silence over the Christmas period by buying your kids 50 classic videogames for the price of one. Now that's value for money!
The 50-n-1 Video Game ($39.95) is loaded with 50 easy-to-use 8-bit games and simply hooks up to your TV or projector using the supplied AV cables - no videogame system is required. Note, however, that your television or video display must have AV inputs to work - no SCART connection is supplied. Once connected, you can play games similar (not the originals) to the arcade games of the past such as Motor Rally, GP Race, Sea War, Dart Champion, or Ocean Quest. The Controller requires three 'AA' batteries, which aren't included. Prepare to be flamed when your kid expects Halo 2!
The ultimate gaming peripheral for boy racers
If you take your video games seriously you'll definitely want to check out the Serious Racer Pro (AUS$10,000). Available to fit your favourite games platform, the Serious Racer Pro (600x1700x850mm, 56kg) is the ultimate gaming peripheral - a racing cell with an accurately-styled F1 cockpit, adjustable length force-feedback steering wheel with your choice of stick-shift or F1 style paddle shift, adjustable pedal position, as well as an authentic racing seat that gives a realistic driving position. If you want to go the whole hog, the chassis comes with mounting points for a full race harness.
Available in different colours and designs, the unit can be plugged into a projector or television, or a plasma or flat screen TV using the mounting area on the nose. The package also includes a coloured gelcoat finish with 'optimal' strength, DJR race livery or custom designed exterior, 5.1 surround sound, carbon fibre side inserts, dual under-seat rumblers, dual fans and variable speed control, aluminium retractable front handle, rear exterior race lighting, instrument dash panel, and a remote control for a Playstation 2 videogames console.
If that doesn't whet your fancy, optional extras include custom designed upholstry, Dick Johnson Race Team livery, your name in the embroidery, wireless visual output (no cables), dash panel with gauges and lighting, carbon fibre dash panel with SR gauges, rear outside fluro light or LED set, front mount bracket for a TV screen, back cover custom design, custom dust cover, custom dust cover in livery design, and a seat racing harness. There's also the option to include one of the most vital aspects of high-speed white knuckle racing - a drink holder. If your pockets aren't quite that deep, the Serious Racer (standard) is available for AUS$7500. A deposit of 50% is required on all orders, and construction time is about 4 to 5 weeks, according to the company.
