Ten Minutes of Dissidia Final Fantasy Gameplay

Las week, Square Enix held “Closed Conference 2015″ where Dissidia Final Fantasy developers discussed about the game. Dissidia Final Fantasy is scheduled for arcade release in Fall 2015 and it’s being developed in collaboration between Koei Tecmo and Square Enix. Another exciting collaboration comes with the arcade hardware where Sony and Square Enix are working together. At first, Dissidia was being in development on “traditional” arcade hardware, but now it’s utilizing the power of customized PlayStation 4 hardware.

The third installment in Dissidia series will be featuring new gameplay elements such as a 3 vs. 3 battle system where up to six players can fight against each other at the same time. Since the series is moving away from the handheld consoles, the visuals will be receiving a significant upgrade as well. During fights when your character gets damaged, her or his appearance will also change. Earlier this year, the premiere trailer introduces us with returning heroes such as Warrior of Light, Lightning, Cloud Strife, Terra Branford and Onion Knight, but also a new hero from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn – Y’shtola. The development team didn’t reveal are they planning to bring Final Fantasy XV or Final Fantasy Type-0 HD characters to the game, but they promise at least 50 characters. Square Enix is also planning to bring more music, characters and stages to the game after the release as patches, and it’s likely that the possible PlayStation 4 release will be “a complete pack” when it releases someday.

Noctis Will Come To Dissidia Final Fantasy After Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix have been hosting location tests for Dissidia Final Fantasy at arcade centers in Japan, and several key developers in Square Enix producer Ichiro Hazama, Koei Tecmo director Takeo Kujiraoka, and head of Team Ninja Yosuke Hayashi answered a few questions in an interview with Dengeki.

So far, it’s been announced that Dissidia Final Fantasy on arcade will feature characters from the first Final Fantasy up until Final Fantasy XIV. Dengeki asks if there’s a chance we’ll see Noctis from Final Fantasy XV as one of the characters that eventually makes it into the game.

“We’re thinking about it, of course. He would likely use something like his ‘Phantom Swords’,” Kujiraoka says with a laugh.

“There are even some among us that have been thinking about it, saying ‘if Noctis will be in it, how will he perform those warps?’” adds Hayashi.

“However, this will have to be after Final Fantasy XV releases,” Hazama says. “It would be a bit too much to play as a Final Fantasy XV character in arcades right after the demo.”

Considering that Team Ninja are working on the development of Dissidia Final Fantasy, Dengeki asks if there’s a chance of seeing characters from the Dead or Alive series. To this, Hayashi responds by saying that for Dissidia Final Fantasy, it would be best to develop the game with Final Fantasy fans in mind. Team Ninja’s role is to provide their knowhow, experience, and technology.

Since their goal is to add 50 characters or more, there may be a lot of space in the roster for other characters, but Hayashi says that Final Fantasy is a series with a lot of characters, so there will be plenty to choose from, and clarifies that they don’t have any plans on adding Dead or Alive characters.

Moving on, Team Ninja’s Soft Engine is used to show more realistic skin texture and movements to the characters of Dead or Alive. Dengeki asks whether the studio will employ it for Dissidia Final Fantasy.

“At first, we asked ‘can we try it out with Terra?’” Hayashi responds with a laugh. “However, currently, it’s been decided not to use it for the time being. I don’t know if we will by the time it’s done, but we’ll try creating the game without using it first. We’ve discussed how once a character that requires it for ‘that’ appears, we’ll think about it again.”

Dissidia Final Fantasy is in development for arcade.

Danke, für die ganzen Infos, Kiera! :)

Dissidia Final Fantasy Details Its Six Characters And Their Roles

In Square Enix’s upcoming arcade title, Dissidia Final Fantasy, you’ll get to play as various characters from throughout the entire series. However, what makes Warrior of Light’s attacks different from Cloud’s Buster Sword hits? 4Gamer’s latest video teaches us more on the six revealed characters, and their specialties.

The video starts out with a some basic information on the upcoming arcade release of Dissidia Final Fantasy, and how it’ll mainly be played as a 3v3 action fighter. In this video, 4Gamer gives us a look at the six currently confirmed characters.

The first one is Warrior of Light, who is classified as a “Heavy” class character. He’s a balanced character that can attack from close range with is sword and also from mid-ranged distance. His EX Skill “Holy Chain” is kind of like a “Provoke” that makes enemies all focus target on himself. His “Shield of Light” increases his defense, helping him become a shield for his allies.

Next up, is the Speed-type Onion Knight. He uses his speed to advantage by getting around with ease throughout the battlefield, and can also use magic and sword attacks. The Onion Knight can change his job between “Ninja” and “Sage,” which greatly changes his playstyle. He’s a versatile character that goes with any kind of party setup.

At 2:48, we get a look at the Shoot-type Terra Branford. As the type name implies, Terra shoots down enemies from mid and long-ranged distances using magic attacks. Her EX Skill is her trademark special ability “Trance,” which transforms her into an Esper, vastly increasing her attack, defense, and speed. She’s an easy-to-use damage-dealer type character.

Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife sees some action as a Heavy-type character at the 3:50 mark. Using his giant blade, he can take out enemies by charging (holding) “Brave Attacks”. His EX Skill “Limit Break” allows him to use various attacks with much less time spent charging up his attacks. He might not be able to keep up with Speed-type characters, but he makes up for it with wide range, reach, and heavy attacks.

The Speed-type Lightning is next, and she demonstrates her Paradigm Shift which allows her to switch between two styles of “Attacker” and “Blaster”. Her preferred attacking range changes depending on the style, so you’ll need to know how to switch it up accordingly. Her “Army of One” ability lets her recover HP, making it very useful in all the action going on.

Finally, we get to see Final Fantasy XIV’s Y’shtola at 5:49. Similar to Terra, she’s a Shoot-type character with the ability to attack from mid and long-ranged combat; however, she also excels at supporting allies with buffs and weakening enemies with debuffs. Her EX Skill “Ethereal Pulse” increases the party’s Brave, and the effect will keep going on while the skill is active. It’s powerful and useful, but leaves her open to attacks, so there’s a risk involved, too.
