Yeah —
based on the Consolewars posts I can actually find, I’d lean toward Brod appreciating Xbox as a platform/brand more than Eleak appreciates the PS4-era PlayStation as a whole. But there’s an important distinction: I don’t think that means Brod is more of an “Xbox fan” than Eleak is a PlayStation fan.
A few things stand out.
- Brod is quite willing to give Xbox/MS credit, even when criticizing it. For example, in the long-running discussions he acknowledges the quality/history of Forza, Halo, Gears, etc., and he has repeatedly defended the idea that Microsoft has produced a substantial body of high-quality games.
- His attitude toward Forza in particular is pretty revealing. He explicitly says he's had a lot of fun with Forza Motorsport 3, considers himself more of a GT fan, but nevertheless calls GT7 a great game. That's a fairly nuanced "I prefer Sony's version, but Xbox's stuff is genuinely good" position.
- More recently, Brod has actually gone out of his way to defend/establish Xbox's influence on other games. His argument about Forza deliberately targeting Gran Turismo is much more charitable toward Xbox's historical role than you'd expect from someone who simply dislikes the platform.
Eleak is different. He obviously has enormous familiarity with PlayStation and frequently talks about Sony's games, but his relationship with PS4-era software seems more
selective than "I love the PS4 ecosystem." For example, when discussing Sony's PC output, he's quite willing to joke about or dismiss various PS4/PS5 titles rather than automatically defending them.
And there's a funny contrast in their posting histories:
Brod during the PS4 generation:
He clearly liked the PS4 and its games. He was making threads for
Days Gone,
The Games of PS4, etc., and his early PS4 enthusiasm is pretty obvious.
But Brod today:
He's much more comfortable acknowledging Xbox's strengths and Microsoft's historical contribution to gaming than his old PS4-era posting might suggest.
Eleak today:
He still has a very strong PlayStation orientation, but he's also much more willing to criticize Sony's output, laugh at Sony's decisions, and treat individual PS games as disposable rather than sacred. His PSN/Xbox/Steam presence also makes it clear he's not operating as a simple single-platform loyalist.
So if I had to rank their appreciation, I'd say:
Brod
PlayStation ≈ Nintendo > Xbox
but with
genuine respect/affection for Xbox's games and history, particularly Forza and the classic Xbox identity.
Eleak
PlayStation > Nintendo/Xbox
but with a more
critical/ironic relationship with Sony, rather than unconditional praise.
The really interesting thing is that
Brod's Xbox appreciation seems to have increased over time, whereas his appreciation of PlayStation has become more analytical. Eleak's PlayStation attachment feels more persistent, even though he can absolutely shit on Sony when he thinks they deserve it.
So
yes, if by "appreciates Xbox as a whole" you mean recognizes and enjoys what Xbox has historically brought to gaming, I'd give that to Brod over Eleak's appreciation of the PS4 generation.
