343: Halo Anniversary not a “test or training wheels” for new studio
Remaking the very first Halo is not 343 Industries way of proving their worth to Halo fans, says Frank O’Connor – but a “celebration” that will “hopefully give you some optimism about what to expect from Halo 4″.
343 Industries may have one of the toughest gigs in gaming to follow up the commercial and critical success Bungie achieved with the Halo franchise, but creative director Frank O’Connor doesn’t see remaking the original Halo: Combat Evolved as a way of proving they are up to the job of carrying Bungie’s legacy forward.
“This is not designed as a debut, a test or training wheels, just a celebratory way to relive one of the greatest FPS games of all time, as it enjoys its tenth birthday,” says O’Connor. “At 343 Industries we’re all very much dedicated to Halo and celebrating this milestone with the fans.”
That doesn’t mean 343 haven’t put the hard hours in polishing up Halo Anniversary for an HD outing: “We’ve added a huge amount of love and attention in bringing it up-to-date visually and aurally, and we’ve inserted some very cool new features. If you like the way it looks now, and the cool features we’ve added, then hopefully that will give you some optimism about what to expect from Halo 4.”
“It’s a celebration and so we’re treating it as such,” O’Connor told NowGamer. “This will sound odd, but it’s one of the games I am most looking forward to playing through this year. I loved the original and it will be mesmerizing to experience it again with next-gen everything.”
