Das ginge auch nicht. Man kann nicht einfach von heute auf morgen ne 180 Grad Kehrtwende machen wenn. Zudem wäre Toshiba darüber ziemlich verärgert. Und außerdem sind die Studios auch vertraglich gebunden.

Das war doch nichtmal ein Gerücht sondern einfach eine die schon seit dem Launch der Xbox360 vermutet wurden weil Microsoft ja ein HD DVD Laufwerk anbietet

Hm naja ich glaube kaum dass man da so spontan reagieren kann. MS hat ja viel zeit und Geld in das spekulative Xbox Ultimate Modell gesteckt. Und irgendwas will man ja präsentieren. Kann mir net vorstellen dass man dass dann einfach wegwirft.

Aber nachdem es nun bekannt is das Warner BD exklusiv ist denke ich dass diese Ultimate mit HD DVD nie erscheinen wird bzw. nie entwickelt wurde.

So it's interesting to hear Peter Moore, Microsoft's gaming veep, spill it to the Japanese website ITmedia that if HD DVD doesn't make it through the format war, Microsoft could launch an external Blu-ray drive for the 360 instead of going down with the ship. Sounds like a smart move on their part to keep options open, but with all they've done to ensure that Blu-ray gets killed dead it seems like they'd have to be really hurting to ever ship a Blu-ray drive for their shiny gaming boxen.

Ich verstehe nicht ganz worauf du hinaus willst das "Ultimate Modell" wird jedenfalls schon seit dem Launch der Xbox360 vermutet, warum das gerade jetzt auch wirklich kommen soll verstehe ich nicht.

CES HD DVD Event canceled due to Warner announcement

HD DVD logoI just received an email from the HD DVD Promotion Group stating that the CES 2008 HD DVD press event has been canceled. The recent Blu-ray exclusive announcement from Warner is cited as the reason for the event being canceled. You can find the full text of the notice below.

Kevin Tsujihara, President, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group says the studio took no pay-offs to exclusively back Blu-ray.

In a post-announcement conference call, Tsujihara flatly denied rumors that studio had accepted anywhere from 250M to $500M in exchange for dropping its HD DVD format support.

According to the exec, Warner's sole motivation in dropping its HD DVD format support was to ensure growth of the "category" and the long-term health of the industry.

"The packaged media business is a $42 billion dollar business worldwide at the retail level, and we [Warner] have the largest market share of anybody," said Tsujihara. "From our perspective, the most important piece of this whole puzzle is, "How do we get growth back into this category?" That far outweighed anything else."

This [decision] was one hundred percent around what makes the most sense for the consumer, the retailer and the industry. This was not a bidding war. This was all about what was best, strategically, for us."
