- Session Eight: Uncharted
Oh man! This is the only game for which i decide to wait, and it was worth the wait! The demo had 3 levels, and as usual i decided to go with the first one. The demo starts with Drake and the girl (sorry i forgot name lol) evacuating the plane. The detail to attention is phenomenal. Everything was detailed, from Sony's Camcorder to the parachute bag to the jungle to Drake himself. Hell, for a moment i forgot i was playing a game and i expected some cleavage when she ducked to pick up the parachute (I'm sorry ok!! I'm not a pervert but it just occured lol). Next up the controls. I think this game has the most natural controls ever. Yes, they are inspired by Gears of War, but the way they implemented it made me feel alot more comfortable than playing Gears of War. When i play Gears, i feel as if there is a huge rock over me and i feel there's alot of weight on me. When playing Uncharted, it felt like floating in the air. Drake's movement is as natural as ever. It took me ONE SHOT to break the lock (Kittonwy, i know you're there!! rawr!).
The first 5 minutes of the demo is exploration. As in exploring your way out and introducing yourself to the jungle. Hear me when i say this: I NEED THIS GAME NOW! The green rocks looked as it should look, the water looked surprisingly like water rather than a sheet of jelly. As i jumped into the water and got out, i realized that Drake's pants are wet. "OH SNAP!" said a guy watching behind me. "HIS PANTS ARE WET! DO U SEE THAT!" said another dude behind me. I decided to play with test the limit of wetness and i entered the waterfall. Next thing you know, Drake is all soaked up and wet. I had a smile in my face and i said to myself "I welcome you, next-gen!".
After running around for 5 minutes and admiring the beauty, i crossed the log and saw enemies swarming ahead. Thats when i first used the cover and my my my! I couldn't stop going and coming out of cover cause there are so many different animations. Took the aim and shot couple of guys. Took 4 shots to kill each dude, and one shot when aiming at the head. I climbed the rope and after jumping around, i saw more guys 20 feet under and ahead. Took an aim at one of them and killed him with a headshot, while the rest got alerted of my location and went kamikaze on me. Jumped down and i died...
I died because i jumped without holding onto anything and the plunge crushed Drake. Glad it was close to checkpoint. Stared again, yadda yadda yadda, Headshot, kamikaze, jump. Made my way down, and starting emptying clips on the guys before realizing im out of ammo and one of them is rushing at me. "Shit! Shit! Cover! Cover!" I hid and waited impatiently for him to come close and empty his clips. As soon as he started reloading, i jumped on him and he started speeding up the loading process. As soon as he was done loading, Drake traded some punches with him before dropkicking on him. Picked up AK-47, and noticed that you can switch the shoulder aim from left to right (aka MGS4). Suddenly, a grenade icon started flashing in the bottom of screen and by the time i was done mesmerizing the shoulder cam, it blew me away back to hell.
Checkpoint, headshot, rush, kamikaze, jump. out of clips, AHH DEAD AGAIN! REPEAT! Headshot.. Shit i missed! Ahh great! now they are 1 man more! Jumped down, punched a dude before realizing he is kicking my ass and beat me down with couple of punches. FUCK! This game is not a run and gun! You have to be careful how you approach a certain task. After 5 repeats, few barrel explosions, dropkicks, throws and super punches, i finally managed to kill em all. FINALLY! "Let's see where i have to go... wait, where do i go! oh crap im lost! no wait, there they are!!". I started emptying clips before realizing im out of bullets again. "GRENADE! AHH CRAP IM DEAD!!" I give up...
By the amount of clips i loaded on them, it took around 10 to 20 bullets in AK-47, and 4 to 6 bullets in pistol. Was glad to know that this was TGS build and not the latest build with better and balanced weapon system.
5 Words: GAME OF THE FUCKING YEAR!
Man. I can talk about uncharted all day. I wish i had more time with that demo. I wish i could play all 3 levels in the demo. I only played half of the first demo before people behind me were all getting weird on me since i was playing for 20 minute straight just exploring and admiring the beauty.
Alright here goes. Fighting with enemy is not easy. You tap square to throw quick small punches, and Hold square to throw heavy finishers. The enemy's reaction is like a human instead of a statue when you run to throw punches, and they counter attack and reach. It is not "Press Square to activate a finisher". Every punch is different and every outcome is different. I had yet to see a similar punch or throwdown or dropkick twice. As i said before, i was killed by the AI during the melee because i threw a punch at the wrong time and the AI dodged and beat the shit outta me.
Once again, run and gun will not work. You have to KNOW where your enemy is before making a move. You have to wait and see where they are standing and where they are hiding before you do. I can't imagine how much i struggled with the demo cause half of the time i was running and gunning and always run out of ammo and got my ass kicked or blind-sided. AI will NOT camp at one spot, and will not just camp, shoot, camp, come close to you, camp, shoot. They will move sideways, they will regroup, they will look around their shoulder while reloading to see if they are covered. Some nervous ones will just focus on the gun and make sure they reload faster. The animation in this game is rock-solid.
Speaking of rock, climbing rocks is easy and natural and stuff that you think Drake or anyone in his situation should be able to do, he can do it. I saw some dude playing the level where Drake is rock-climbing his way to the other side before grabbing the rope. I didn't watch it for too long, but i saw a dude not knowing what to do so i told him to drop down to the lower ledge. He did (You press O to drop down) but he also moved the analog stick to the right and i saw drake struggling in the air before holding on to a rock. "That was close!" he said before i laughed and left.

oh man das klingt so geil, ich freue mich riesig auf das spiel.
