'MICROSOFT CORPORATION BUYOUT OF ENIX CORPORATION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 29, 2002
Redmond, seattle -- microsoft(msft) corporation announced today that it is working with ENIX CORPORATION, to finance a buyout offer. The purchase price will be $179 million adjusted for working capital as of June 31, 2002. ENIX CORPORATION based in Shibuya-ku,Tokyo Japan has agreed to the transaction.
Microsoft will initially provide debt financing and, together with Enix'x management, will also provide equity financing for the buyout. Enix's current management will continue to operate the company which focuses on videogame software production in the world's second largest market, Japan.
'Microsoft's alliance with Enix illustrates the partnering approach we are taking in this business,' said Bill Gates, chairman Microsoft. 'By financing this buyout, Microsoft is supporting management's strategy for growing Enix Corporation. In turn, Microsoft will share in that growth as the company strengthens its position in the interactive entertainment industry.'
Gates added that the alliance with Enix meets Micrsofts overall strategy as it continues to expand its market presence in the critical home console business.

The acquisition of Enix remains contingent upon, among other things, approval by the company's shareholders.
