Dylan Cuthbert not too interested in returning to StarFox, calls the Wii a toy, and says Miyamoto makes what he wants, not what fans want
A portion of a G4 interview with Q Games President Dylan Cuthbert
G4: Would you like to do another Star Fox game?
Dylan Cuthbert: (Laughter) After Command? Uhh, not yet. Maybe in another 10 years. Ive made three.
G4: I have to ask you, why do you think it was always difficult for developers when Fox got out of the Arwing. Fox is a pilot, but theyd always get him out of like the tank, the tank was cool, but it still felt like an Arwing - Why do you think people wanted to take him out of being a pilot and have him run around on foot?
Cuthbert: I think thats all Miyamoto. Whenever I speak to Miyamoto about Star Fox, he says its not meant to be just a flying, sci-fi shooting game. Its meant to be anything we want to think up. But the core fans dont want that, but Miyamoto doesnt really care about that. He wants to make what he wants to make, so he just goes ahead and gets it done.
Then, Mr. Cuthbert brings us back to the launch of the Wii with this statement
The Wii is a bit more of a toy, I think.
I just lost a lot of respect for Mr. Cuthbert not for his Miyamoto comments (they may be true), but for his opinions of StarFox and the Wii.
Und ein Update
Dylan Cuthbert clears up his Miyamoto, StarFox, Wii comments
April 4th, 2009
Sounds like Mr. Cuthbert had a few of his statements taken out of context. Hes obviously caught word of what was said, and wanted to make a point to clear things up.
Um.. just like to point out here that I wasnt having a dig at Miyamoto at all. I was just explaining how he works - he gets on and does his thing. He is an amazing creator and thats what amazing creators do.
And the comment regarding not wanting to make a Wii Starfox is clear, it would take a very large team and right now I am having a lot of fun with smaller teams. Thats all there is to it really. Thats how I intended the comment not as Dylan spurns Starfox, shock horror!.
I also say the Wii is more of a toy and it is. Its not derogatory, the Wii is a great machine with lots of bells and whistles and this makes it feel (to me) to be more toy-like. In comparison the PS3/XBOX360 are more media center-like.
Miyamoto, Genie und Wahnsinniger in einem. Gerade Flug-Only macht Star Fox zu dem, weshalb es geliebt wird.
