Courtesy of Playscope, we bring to you a bevy of Crimson Tears screens. These beautiful pics are of in-game graphics. This cel-shaded beat 'em up is a joint effort by Capcom, Spike, and Dream Factory (Tobal series, The Bouncer, and Ehrgeiz). As in The Bouncer, the characters can gain levels and learn new moves as the game progresses. I can't stress how great these look, so look for yourself.
Crimson Tears is set for a release for sometime in 2004 for the Playstation 2.

*behaupt*

New screens for Crimson Tears

Dream Factory reveals us new screenshots of Crimson Tears, its futuristic beat' EM all in concealment-shading currently under development on PlayStation 2. The history proceeds in 2049, in devastated Tokyo. Following an accident in a research laboratory, strange events start to appear. Your role will be thus to find what does not go and to restore the order in the passages which you will survey. Fortunately for our neurons, the play should integrate some elements of RPG. Exit envisaged in 2004 in Japan, but not of advertisement at the present time for Europe. You know what remains to be made you? To burn a forest of candle, probably.

So wie The Bouncer. So wie The Bouncer.

Crimson Tears cries out to Europe

The traditional scrolling beat 'em up collides with RPG-style random dungeon generation in a gorgeous, anime-styled action title from Capcom.

Capcom has confirmed that Crimson Tears, a weapon-based 3D fighting title first revealed at last year's Tokyo Games Show, is on course for a pan-European release this summer. Developed by Dream Factory, who the more avid beat 'em up fans among you may recall developed the Tobal and Ehrgeiz titles for Square, it's set a mere 45 years in the future and stars three prototypical biological weapons who are out to investigate A.R.M.A., an arms manufacturer suspected of terrorist activity.

Upon initial exploration of the suspect's base of operations, however, the trio - named Asuka, Kaede and Tokio, if you're interested - encounter a mysterious dimensional distortion that turns the area into an ever-changing labyrinth packed with other, more unfriendly biological weapons. What this translates to in gameplay terms is randomly-generated maps, which in theory should mean that you'll never play the same area twice.

Despite this RPG-style twist, the action is straight-up fighting through and through, with the trio able to make use of hand-to-hand and projectile weaponry such as swords, guns, bazookas, deadly Black Widow catapults and flame throwers. See if you can spot which one we made up.

As you'll see in the shots below, the game's beautiful cel-shaded graphics are backed up by some thoroughly lovely cutscenes. According to Capcom, they utilise a technique called 'High Toon Movie technology' to create a stunning visual cocktail of 3D computer-generated imagery with traditional 2D anime stylistics. To get an idea of how we think it'll look in motion, check out this jaw-dropping trailer for upcoming Japanese anime Appleseed, which Dream Factory has also had a hand in creating.
