Arslan: The Warriors of Legend coming west in early 2016, Xbox One version added

Koei Tecmo has announced it’s bringing Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, a tactical action title based on the novel, manga, and anime IP The Heroic Legend of Arslan, to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One via retail and digitally, and PlayStation 3 digitally in North America and Europe in early 2016.

Here’s the rundown, via Koei Tecmo:

Originally written as a novella in the late 1980’s, The Heroic Legend of Arslan has been adapted to manga and anime numerous times, with the most prominent being the 2013 release of a manga series by famed illustrator Hiromu Arakawa (the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist). It tells the story of the young crown prince of Pars, Arslan, as he is forced out of his kingdom when his father, the king, is betrayed and defeated and his domain conquered. Arslan and his few companions must re-assemble an army and fight against overwhelming odds to regain his throne and liberate his kingdom. Through his exploits he reaches emotional maturity, while the series also tackles underlying issues of slavery, religious fanaticism, betrayal, and humanity.

The game adaptation of this magnificent story seamlessly blends the fast paced tactical action gameplay indicative of the Warriors franchise with a stunningly engaging narrative. Using cell-shaded graphics and basing all character design on the anime series Arslan: The Warriors of Legend delivers a gaming experience designed to fully immerse the player into Arslan’s universe!

A set of screenshots released today introduces the following characters:

- Arslan: The young prince of the kingdom of Pars
- Daryun: A skilled commander of the Pars cavalry
- Narsus: A extremely capable strategist, and
- Elam: Narsus’s squire

Arslan: The Warriors of Legend adds Kubard, Tus, Zaravant, and Esfan

Kubard, Tus, Zaravant, and Esfan will be playable in Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, Koei Tecmo announced.

The publisher released a new set of screenshots introducing the characters, as well as new stages “Village Rescue” (Pars Village) “Zarbule Castle Battle” (Zarbule Castle), and “Saint Emmanuel Castle Skirmish / Battle” (Saint Emmanuel Castle).

Additionally, the latest in the game’s series of ‘action introduction’ trailers showcase characters Jaswant and Kishward. Previous Arslan: The Warriors of Legend gameplay videos have introduced the actions of Daryun, Gieve, Elam, Arslan and Farangis, and Narsus and Alfreed.

Arslan: The Warriors of Legend demo coming to PS4 and PS3 in Japan on September 24

A playable demo for Arslan: The Warriors of Legend will launch for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan via the PlayStation Store on September 24, Koei Tecmo announced during a Tokyo Game Show stage event.

The demo will feature content different from the Tokyo Game Show version.

Koei Tecmo also announced character songs for Arslan, Daryun, Narsus, Elam, and Gieve. By clearing certain side-story scenarios, you’ll obtain an item which, when equipped, plays the song in the background during Mardan Rush attacks.

Arslan: The Warriors of Legend will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One via physical and digital, and PlayStation 3 via digital, on February 9 in North America and February 12 in Europe, Koei Tecmo announced.

Based on the renowned novel, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, this tactical action epic is keeping close to the spirit of the rebooted anime and manga version illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, creator of Fullmetal Alchemist. As such, in addition to the Warriors series’ traditional thrilling action of one versus thousand, Arslan: The Warriors of Legend incorporates a new type of action – the Mardan Rush. Designed to match the setting of ‘The Heroic Legend of Arslan’, this action allows players to wipe out large numbers of enemies by taking control of special ‘Rush’ units (mounted, ranged, or melee) and dealing devastating damage.

In addition to controlling army units, the game also features new battle moves for individual characters, like the Chain Strike. As the story progresses, playable characters will gain access to different weapon types. Chain Strike allows for a real time switch between available weapons while executing a power attack, which brings more variety to the action and can be used to prolong combos.

Koei Tecmo has released a new character trailer and details introducing the “Weapon Arts” system and new stages of Arslan: The Warriors of Legend.

Weapon Arts

Since success in battle heavily relies on the prowess of individual characters, Arslan: The Warriors of Legend features a new gameplay element that helps boost the skills and abilities of playable characters in a unique and exciting way! Specifically, players will be able to use Weapon Arts to upgrade and customize their weapons of choice to a high degree.

Weapon Arts are effectively an attribute type (i.e. Power, Fire, Water etc.) that can be attached to a specific weapon. The more a character uses that weapon and gains mastery over it, the more special abilities and powers are unlocked. Since every Weapon Art has a different attack effect, players can combine various weapons with different abilities in a Chain Strike and create impressive and devastating effects in a variety of combos!

New Stages

Koei Tecmo has announced the locations of two more stages: the rocky slopes of Mount Bashur and the beautiful yet troubled kingdom of Shindhura.

der anime ist durch und eigentlich sehr gut. auf cw, wie immer natürlich untergegangen.

Ja ist ein Spinoff mit Fokus auf Reiterei soweit ich weiß. Anime hab ich noch nicht geschaut. Ob ich mir das Spiel hole bezweifel ich auch erstmal, hab genug Warriors noch daheim^^

Oh, ok. Der Stil sagt mir definitiv mehr zu als der verwendete Stil bei One Piece. Ich denke, das Spiel werde ich irgendwann kaufen oder falls es eine Demo geben wird,...diese ausprobieren.

Arslan: The Warriors of Legend Hands On: A Natural Fit For Warriors

It seems we’ve had a recent onslaught of Warriors ‘spin-offs’ recently. This year alone has seen Dragon Quest Heroes and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 while next year will see the release of Hyrule Warriors Legends, Attack on Titan as well as Arslan: The Warriors of Legend.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Arslan: The Warriors of Legend is based on Hiromu Arakawa’s (of Fullmetal Alchemist fame) adaption of The Heroic Legend of Arslan series of novels, specifically covering the first series of the anime. While Zelda and Dragon Quest can seem like a bit of an odd choice to have a game with Warriors gameplay, Arslan actually makes for a rather natural fit for the series. The story follows the titular Arslan, a young prince, on his journey to take back his home nation of Pan after it was overthrown by the nation of Lusitania. The mission I played followed Arslan in his maiden battle leading an army.

If you’ve played any other Warriors games then you’ll feel right at home here. The basics such as controller layouts and mission objectives seem similar to other warriors games. Omega Force have been able to really capture the look and feel for their other Warriors spinoffs and Arslan: The Warriors of Legend is no different. It has a simple but stylised cel shaded look that really makes it look an episode of the anime in motion.

Arslan: The Warriors of Legend lets you control multiple characters in a single battle as each character has their own abilities and their usable weapons. In the mission I played, I was able to play as Arslan and his bodyguard Daryun. When playing as Daryun, I was about to switch between a sword which could attack quickly and a spear which was slower but had a much greater reach. using the D-Pad to switch between weapons. Weapon switching is done on the fly by using the D-Pad to quickly switch between weapons. One of the new unique features of Arslan is the ability to perform a Mardan Rush. At certain points on the map, you’ll be able to call together a large group of your army, have them band together and become an unstoppable force that can charge through large groups of enemies and barricades placed on the map.

Whether you’re a fan of Arslan or just a fan of Warriors games in general, Arslan: The Warriors of Legend is shaping up to be another promising entry in Omega Force’s growing library of spin-off titles.

Arslan: The Warriors of Legend demo coming to PS4 on January 12

A demo of Arslan: The Warriors of Legend will launch for PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe on January 12, Koei Tecmo announced.

The demo will include a mission from the first stage of the game, taking players through a short tutorial session using characters Arslan, the Prince of Pars, and his protector Daryun. The demo will also let players use the game’s new moves and powers, such as the “Mardan Rush” and “Weapon Arts” special attacks.

Additionally, Koei Tecmo announced a new “Free Mode” feature. Here are some details:

As anyone who has watched The Heroic Legend of Arslan will know, Narsus’s page Elam is a culinary genius, and his cooking often delights his co-travelers during their quest. This gastronomic side of Elam’s has now been incorporated into the battle preparations!

During the course of the game, players can locate and collect recipe books hidden throughout the story mode. These can be used in Free Mode prior to battle to give the controlled character an ability boost. The various foods, such as Lamb Skewers, Stewed Chicken, and Potluck Soup can provide different effects such as increased health, attack boosts, healing, bonus gold, bonus experience, and more!
