Phil Spencer took the stage today at Oculus VR’s Pre-E3 Presentation to reveal a partnership between Oculus and Microsoft in a number of areas. While it was announced that the Xbox One controller would ship with every Oculus Rift Kit, it was also revealed that Xbox One games streamed to Windows 10 would be compatible with the Oculus Rift as well.
The suprise announcement makes a lot of sense, considering that Microsoft has basically let the virtual reality hardware makers pass them by in recent years. With the announcement of Project Morpheus, and no response from Microsoft, it appeared that Xbox One owners would be left out of virtual reality. These latest developments certainly brighten the horizons for Xbox One owners.
Details were slim from Spencer, but it appears that some games will be compatible from the Xbox One, though none were mentioned by name. This partnership also opens the door for games developers to make their PC-exclusive Oculus Rift titles available on Xbox One as well.
Oculus VR’s Press Conference very well may have dropped the first megaton announcement for Microsoft at E3.
