US Developer Crossbeam Studios recently spoke to Nintendo Europe with news on their upcoming projects Orb, Thorn and Darkness, their vision for the future of gaming and various other tidbits. Nintendo spoke to Greg Szemiot & Greg Nichols from the studio on their upcoming projects.
The interview is for registered VIP Members, however weve summarised the key points below:
# When Crossbeam saw the Wii controller for the first time during TGS 2005 they instantly wanted to shift their ideas, which were originally for the PC, to the Wii. The Wii remote can be used as a pointer to explore the world of Orb, to make the projects a less generic PC/mouse simulation.
# Orb is the companys main project, followed by Thorn and Darkness.
# Orb and Thorn are adventure games with deep storylines but still enjoyable as quick pick up and play that the company feel would fit in well with Nintendos strategy.
The main emphasis of the interview was the creepy, fear-driven project in the works Darkness.
Darkness
# Darkness a different game based on the concept of fear- Zelda meeting Resident Evil.
# Basically what I want you to feel when you turn off the game is that youre too afraid to turn the lights off. Think of when you were three years old, and the fear you had of basements, or the attic, or the dark. Its not the scare of the shock that Im aiming for, what I want is the actual fear of the things that make you look over your shoulder. When I get afraid, my eyes start to water and a small tear comes out. I want that kind of fear to come out of the game. - Greg Nichols
# The world has been over-run by the forces of darkness, and its humanitys last chance to turn the tide. And essentially, it is a story about self-discovery, unravelling your own past.
# Character interaction is the main factor of the game, where players can explore their environment and the story shifting based on whats been discovered.
# In Darkness expect lots of branching paths, side quests and different outcomes based on your actions. You will also be allowed to travel back to places youve visited most of the time.
