Aliens: Colonial Marines
We were clammering to get our hands on Gearbox's scarily faithful looking Aliens game at E3, but alas, Sega felt it needed "a little more time" before a large scale press showing. But Leipzig happens a little more time after E3, so here's hoping.
WipeOut HD
SCEE's favourite racing series showed off its neon-drenched, high-def update at last year's GC, so it can't be far off ready by now. And WipeOut is made in the UK, so it's not asking too much for the team to make a small trip over to Germany, is it?
Bungie's new (Halo?) game
After Microsoft pulled Bungie's new game (the smart money's on it being a new entry to the Halo series) from its E3 press conference at the last minute, the only reason it wouldn't turn up at Leipzig is if it was being saved for a special MS event.
Heavy Rain
Reportedly it was at E3, reserved for very select, behind-closed-doors audiences. The hype on this one has been quietly building since E3 2006 when it was first revealed. Leipzig would be the perfect place for the game's French developer, Quantic Dream, to give us a long overdue update.
Alan Wake
Alan Wake's series of no-shows is becoming a little tiresome now. But developer Remedy is based in Europe and its profile has been boosted a little recently by news of the Max Payne movie, so maybe now's the time. Remedy has recently quashed a rumour of regarding the game's appearance at the Tokyo Games Show, but nothing has been said either way about Leipzig
Half-Life 2: Episode 3
The artwork has started to trickle through, the fanboys are going rabid, and yet still Valve didn't take Episode 3 to E3. PC gaming is traditionally a lot bigger in Europe though, so we'll be going to Leipzig with crowbars at the ready.
Doom 4
Okay, so this one is a bit of a long shot, but consider the following. id professes not to like talking about a new project until something is ready to show. Both John Carmack and Todd Hollenshead have been mentioning Doom 4 a lot in interviews lately. id is going to Leipzig, which is in Europe, hotbed of PC gaming.
Imps and demons. We demand our imps and demons.
Wolfenstein
Same deal as Doom 4, except that we've already had an E3 trailer. Demo please!
Timesplitters 4
TS4 is definitely coming from UK-based Free Radical Design, who could do with a crowd-pleasing hit after the ungodly mess of Haze. Showing off a new 'Splitters game would make us forget all about it in exactly 0.47 of a second.
Star Wars Battlefront 3
Star Wars Battlefront 3 is only rumoured, but the rumours are heavier than a concrete elephant, and we do know that Free Radical is working on a "secret Lucasarts project" at the moment.
Dead Island
We haven't seen much of Polish dev Techland's two games (also see Warhound, below) since last year's GC, but they were already looking pretty damn shiny. Both games were in search of a publisher back then, but that was 12 months ago, so we must be close to another, more complete showing.
Warhound
Techland's second game, Warhound, is a mercenary career simulator which sees you jostling with rival pro-killers for jobs and tactically managing your finances before unleashing merry hell with a lot of very large guns. And best of all, there's a grappling hook and a Gears-style cover system, all in first-person.
Beyond Good And Evil 2
After a legendarily long tease in regards to its very existence, BG&E2 is the most fanboy-pleasing game Ubisoft currently has. There was no appearance at E3, but Ubisoft is based in France and France is next door to Germany.
Prince Of Persia: The Fallen King
Ubisoft's beautiful new POP game was on show at E3 but there was a definite lack of hands-on action. Leipzig, however, seems scheduled to give Ubi just about enough time to get a playable demo ready.
Prototype
Prototype's non-apperance at E3 can probably be explained by the fact that it's being published by Sierra, a subsidiary of Activision, and therefore mixed up in the Activision Blizzard merger. With a bit of luck things will be running more smoothly by Leipzig and it'll put in an appearance.
Wet
Things have been a little quiet on Sierra's other big action game for the same reason as Prototype. Fingers crossed, people. It was unveiled for the first time at last year's GC, so there's a precedent for this one making an appearance this year.
The Chronicles Of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena
The wait for the remake of the original Xbox's Riddick game has been excruciating, but unfortunately Vivendi's publishing rights make it yet another part of the Activision Blizzard fallout. Hang in there folks. There are massive bounties to reap once the big deal gets cleaned up.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Nintendo's total lack of detail on the new DS GTA only served to throw the crushing irrelevency exhibited by most of the rest of its E3 conference into even starker relief. Ninty might not be at Leipzig this year, but Rockstar will be. Hopefully some of the Rockstar Leeds crew will have this in their suitcases. There's already been talk of having it ready for PAX, and that's only a week after GC.
Midnight Club LA
Midnight Club has always sold well in Europe, so Rockstar would be insane not to make sure the new game has a big presence at the German show. It was there last year, albeit behind closed doors, so a bigger showing this year has to be a good bet.
APB
A GTA-style action MMO from the makers of Crackdown, anyone? Thought so. We haven't seen much of Realtime Worlds' cops and robbers sim since this year's GDC, but the open beta test is apparently very close, so a Leipzig update is a must, surely?
Diablo III
Blizzard had a massive presence at Leipzig last year, but didn't show up at E3 '08 at all. The Activision Blizzard merger should have settled down a bit by the time this year's GC rolls around, so hopefully we'll be eviscerating fantasy baddos to our hearts' content next month.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of The Lich King
We're hoping this'll be released later this year. BlizzCon 2008 isn't happening until October. If the merger shenanigans is sorted by Leipzig, there's a good chance that The Lich King will make an appearance.
Dragon Quest IX
Dragon Quest IX has been in development for the DS since 2006, and currently holds a non-specific 2008 release date. In February, Squenix president Yoichi Wada stated that the game was "almost complete", so we must be due an update very soon. The company is already pouring a lot of love onto Nintendo's consoles with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles on Wiiware and numerous Final Fantasy remakes on the DS, so Leipzig would be a great time for new info on a more substantial original game.
Brutal Legend
Yet another casualty of the Activision Blizzard merger, Tim Schafer's Jack Black-starring, heavy metal comic fantasy got knocked out of the E3 schedule while the dust settled around the deal, according to its creator. But Schafer has also said that he hopes to show the game soon, and there's one very clear theory on what that could mean.
Red Dead Revolver 2
We know that a sequel to Rockstar's Wild West actioner is on the way and we know that it's scheduled for release some time this year. The game was absent from E3, but a teaser turned up during the Take-Two press conference, and that positively screams "Go to Leipzig!" to us.
Twisted Metal
We know this is coming for the PS3, and David Jaffe has been dancing around talking about it for a very long time. After a sparse Sony E3 conference - God Of War III notwithstanding - surely there are a few high profile PlayStation surprises left?
White Knight Chronicles
Another glaring omission from Sony's E3 conference, Level-5's PS3-exclusive White Knight Chronicles is scheduled for a Q4 release, at least in Japan, so there's a good chance we'll be seeing more of it soon. Coming from the developer responsible for Dragon Quest VIII and Rogue Galaxy, it would go along way to soothing the sting of Final Fantasy XIII's defection to the Xbox 360.
FIFA '09/Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
Both games are due out in autumn and Europe is the spiritual home of ball/boot interaction, so we'd be very surprised if we didn't see something of each franchise at Leipzig. Both franchises' previous iterations were debuted at Leipzig last year, so a precedent has been set.
Duke Nukem Forever
Please? Pretty please?
