First look at Deception IV: Another Princess

Famitsu has gone up with its online preview of the Deception IV: Another Princess, an updated version of Deception IV: Blood Ties announced in this week’s issue of the magazine for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita.

The game introduces a new heroine, the “nightmare princess” Valgyrie. She is the daughter of a devil and has lost her inherent powers as the result of a long sleep.

A newly added “Quest Mode” offers an all-new story to experience, with Valgyrie as the star. Players will advance by clearing quests and progressing through a quest tree. There are 100 quests to complete, and new traps and abilities to obtain.

You’ll encounter Laegrinna, the original protagonist of Deception IV, at some point during your Quest Mode crusade. She’ll appear as a formidable enemy—naturally, as she, too, has experience in the use of traps.

Deception IV: Another Princess is due out in Japan on March 26. In addition to Valgyrie, Quest Mode, and new traps, the game will also offer a new edit function called “Deception Studio.”

Previous Deception heroines to appear in Deception IV: Another Princess

New princess Valgyrie won’t be the only new character in Koei Tecmo’s upcoming Deception IV: Another Princess, this week’s Famitsu reveals.

The heroines of previous Deception games, including Millenia (from Kagero: Deception II), Reina (Deception III: Dark Delusion), and Allura (Trapt), will appear in the upcoming upgrade as enemies. As Valgyrie, you’ll confront them in the game’s main “Quest Mode.”

Deception IV: Another Princess is due out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on March 26.

Deception IV: Another Princess details returning heroines, Armor Break, and nostalgia traps

Koei Tecmo has detailed the returning heroines, “Armor Break” feature, and traps returning from older Deception games in Deception IV: Another Princess.

Get the information below.

Returning Heroines

In “Quest Mode,” the heroines of previous Deception games will appear as enemies. If you manage to clear certain quests within the mode, you’ll be able to play as them afterwards.

The returning characters are:

Millenia (Kagero: Deception II)

A girl raised by Timenoids who brainwash her to hunt down humans, her memories, as well as any potential remorse about murdering people or emotions in general have been taken from her, rendering her like a puppet. She winds up in Darkside Heaven, a nightmarish world where she encounters Valgyrie, a meeting the sees her memories and emotions undergoing drastic change….

Reina (Deception III: Dark Delusion)

Reina’s life story is a tragic one, having been kidnapped on her 17th birthday and whisked off to the island of Alendar to be sold into slavery, her family winding up murdered. Though she’s taught how to use traps as a means of saving herself, it also results in her being cursed to the life a murderer herself. She acquires a Space-Time Stone, a device capable of controlling space and time that’s cloaked in conspiracy. Indeed, it’s believed to be because of the Space-Time Stone that she finds herself in Darkside Heaven. Though she had reluctantly used her trap powers to attain freedom and as such proactively avoided direct conflict as much as possible, things take a turn once she meets Valgyrie.

Allura (Trapt)

Allura is a princess who’s wrongly accused of the murder of her father, King Olaf. Caught up in a conspiracy of her own, her power to use traps is bestowed to her by the Fiend Malphas for his own ends, resulting in her and her maid, Rachel, being pursued under the belief that they work for him. Upon arriving in Darkside Heaven, the bracelet given to her by Malphas that makes her traps possible disappears, surprising her. This turn of events makes her think she might be able to finally prove her innocence at last, should she be able to return to her world. That is, until she comes face to face with Valgyrie.

Armor Break

In the following screenshot, you’ll see a trap shows with the “Armor Break” ability being used on Millenia, which tears her clothes.

Nostalgia Traps

A number of traps from previous games will make a return in Deception IV: Another Princess. They include:

Suezo

Returning from Kagero: Deception II (and Monster Rancher), this trap is a round monster that rolls down stairs and bounces off walls several times until it hits an enemy and sends them flying.

Genocide Eye

Returning from Deception III: Dark Delusion, this trap is a mask that falls onto the face from above and emits lasers from the eyes towards enemies.

Fall Needle

Returning from Trapt, this trap is a ceiling with spikes that falls on and crushes the enemy.

Deception IV: Another Princess is due out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on March 26.

Deception IV: Another Princess introduces new character Ephemera, modern stages

Deception IV: Another Princess will have modern day school gymnasium, hospital, and park stages, Koei Tecmo announced.

Additionally, a new character named Ephemera was revealed.

Ephemera

Deception-IV-Ephemera-Intro.jpg

Ephemera is an automaton that serves Valgyrie, the latter having lost her strength due to a long slumber, teaching her how to regain the pain to gather up and offer human souls to the Fiend and how to advance the story in Darkside Heaven, among other things. Much time has passed since her original creation by the Fiend, resulting in a body in such disrepair that she can barely move it anymore.

Acting on orders given to her by her now-sealed creator, she works towards his revival one day. As such, she guides Valgyrie towards this goal throughout the story by way of the Quest Tree up until when Valgyrie reigns over the world.

Each modern stage comes with its own set of new traps.

School Gymnasium

Vaulting Box - Vaults the enemy high and forward upon stepping on the springboard.
Kendo Machine Men - A machine wearing a kendo mask that pulls off the traditional “men!” strike.
Ball Spiker - Shoots three volleyballs at the enemy, possibly staggering them forward.

Mikage Workers Hospital

Operating Table - Restrains the enemy for a certain time.
Electric Shock - Makes the enemy recoil as electric shocks numb their body.
Aquarium - By kicking an enemy into the fish tank, it’s possible they’ll fall in head first and get electrocuted.
Wheelchair - Ride the enemy into the wall, flinging them out of their seat.
Syringe - Leaves the enemy in a slow state when hit.

Souma East Park

Rotating Jungle Gym - Sticks the enemy’s head inside the rotating jungle gym to spin and shoot them away.
Slide - Shoots the enemy to the upper slide with a somersault kick.
Spiral Slide - Enemies that land on the spiral slide can be made to ride it down.
Spring Panda - Springs the enemy off the play panda.
Rolling Ball - Kick giant rolling balls at the enemy.

Outside of this, a new gameplay video of Kagero: Deception II‘s Millennia‘s was also released. Watch that below.

Deception IV’s Updated Version Shows A Hospital Stage With More Silly Traps

While a lot of Deception IV takes place in dungeons with darker settings and all kinds of traps like iron maidens, the upgraded version of the game features a hospital in a modern setting with some silly traps. The latest trailer shows us more in detail.

The video starts out with some deranged nurse telling the new red-haired protagonist of Deception IV: The Other Princess, Vergilie, that she can’t go around dressed the way she is, so she proceeds to start throwing projectiles at her.

Similar to the other present day traps we saw in a recent trailer, the stage has all kinds of traps using objects you could find at a hospital, like a wheelchair that crashes targets into walls… or a cleansing jet water toilet that rockets people into electric fish tanks.

In the next part, Virgilie goes up against a poor sap named Yuichi, who finds himself crashing into hospital devices while trying to attack the girl with a broom. In the end, he gets strapped down for an unpleasant finish.

You can also see Vergilie directly attacking the nurse, which is a new feature to the series. Deception IV: The Other Princess also adds a new “Quest Mode,” featuring over 100 quests, along with an edit mode called “Deception Studio”.

Deception IV’s updated version will release in Japan on March 26, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Design Your Own Enemies In Deception IV: Another Princess

Deception IV: Another Princess, an enhanced version of Deception IV: Blood Ties, has a new feature where you can create unfortunate enemies to walk through your traps. Players can customize how enemies look by designing a face, body, voice, gender, personality traits, and what items they are holding. Additional parts can be earned by playing through quest mode. 30 different enemies can be stored.

Koei Tecmo also made more traps for Deception IV: Another Princess. New traps include Hell Judgment where a bolt of lightning comes from the sky, a closet that triggers an armor break, a claw that freezes people, and a sticky floor.

Deception IV: Another Princess comes out on March 26 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess coming west in July

Koei Tecmo is bringing Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Europe on July 17, the publisher announced.

The PlayStation 4 version will be released via retail and digital, while the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita versions will be digital-only.

A North American release has yet to be announced, but this will likely coming later in the morning due to the time difference. (Update: Koei Tecmo Europe confirmed to Gematsu it will be announced shortly.)

An updated version of Deception IV: Blood Ties, The Nightmare Princess adds a new playable princess and Quest Mode, and features over 170 traps.

Outline

The Nightmare Princess follows on the heels of Deception IV: Blood Ties- which revolved around Laegrinna, a deceitful fragment of the Devil’s soul who chose between Sadistic Torment, Elaborate Death, or Humiliating Demise, to defeat her foes through trickery. In this new installment players not only relive Laegrinna’s entire pursuit to free her father, the Devil, from his eternal prison, they also get introduced to an entirely new, wickedly sadistic, and infernally mischievous character: Velguirie.

Velguirie and Quest Mode

Velguirie’s story is covered with a shroud of mystery and the player will have to solve the one hundred quests in the brand new Quest Mode to find out who she really is. The only certainty is that Velguirie is an incredibly dangerous creature that takes extreme pleasure in setting up intricately complex combinations of traps to lure her victims to their untimely- yet in her eyes wildly entertaining- death.

Taking the franchise’s spirit of casting the player in the side of evil up a notch, Velguirie has a unique set of abilities that develop as certain quests are completed. With an immense selection of traps at her disposal she can also try to defeat the previous protagonists of the Deception series and add them to the player’s arsenal.

Traps and Settings

Rolling boulders and spring boards, falling bathtubs and banana peels, balance beams, human cannons and iron maidens are only a few of the more than 170 traps that players can choose from to create the funniest, darkest, or most elaborate combos to defeat their adversaries in delightfully imaginative settings that include medieval castles, hospitals, playgrounds, and amusement parks.

European pre-order bonuses are detailed below:

GAME – Includes the ‘Grill’ trap, which is essentially a fire-walking pit that will cause enemies to quickly tip toe across (that is, if they land on it feet first).
Independent retailers (through Centresoft) – Includes the ‘Kick-Off’ trap, a mechanical apparatus that kicks high speed footballs in the direction of the player’s adversaries.
PlayStation Network and ShopTo.net – Includes the ‘Golden Toilet’ trap, which shows up from the floor under the unsuspecting victim’s legs, only to catapult them in the air with a jet of water!

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess introduces princess cast

Koei Tecmo has released a new trailer and screenshots for Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess introducing the game’s cast of characters.

Get the details below.

Laegrinna and Velguirie

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess revolves around the stories of two ‘daughters’ of the Devil, a creature imprisoned thousands of years ago in a magically sealed cage. The first, Laegrinna, is aided by three Daemons in a quest to find and kill the descendants of the twelve Saints that bound her father. She uses trickery to lure them into traps and defeat them in Sadistic, Elaborate or Humiliating ways.

The second, Velguirie, is an entirely new, wickedly sadistic, and infernally mischievous addition to the series and her story is shrouded in mystery. Velguirie is awakened by an automaton, called Ephemera, after a long slumber that has caused her to lose her powers. To regain them, and to follow the wishes of the Devil in the process, she must lure humans into the demi-plane between the dreamlands and the waking world and use traps to ensnare their souls. Velguirie is the only character in the Deception series to also have an active power, as she can use kicks and somersaults to drive her opponents into traps, or away from her.

Previous Deception Heroines Return

In addition to Velguirie and Laegrinna, players can unlock characters from the previous Deception titles. After these princesses are defeated in-game, they become available as playable characters in the Mission mode:

Millenia (Kagero: Deception II), the Clockwork Princess, has been brainwashed since she was a child and made to hunt humans. As a result, Millenia never has any remorse or emotion over her actions. She has more stamina than the other characters and the power to use traps in rapid succession- after she powers them up.
Alicia (Trapt), the Branded Princess, was branded as a sacrifice for the Devil after being framed for killing her father. The brand on her arm allows her to automatically recover her stamina and to push enemies. She can also choose defensive abilities such as Recovery and Shock Wave.
Reina (Deception III: Dark Delusion), the Tragic Princess, was taken as a slave after her family was murdered on her 17th birthday. She is very agile, though not too strong, and has the unique ability to slow time and dodge enemy attacks.

Traps

Jack-o’-lanterns falling from the sky, golden toilets that explode, banana peels, defibrillators, swaying pandas, human cannons and iron maidens are only a few of the more than 180 traps that players can choose from to create the funniest, darkest, or most elaborate combos to defeat their adversaries in delightfully imaginative settings that include medieval castles, hospitals, playgrounds, and amusement parks.

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess is due out for PlayStation 4 at retail and PlayStation 3 and PS Vita via PlayStation Network on July 14 in North America and July 17 in Europe.

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess details new stages, Deception Studio

Koei Tecmo has detailed the new stages and new “Deception Studio” mode in Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess, its upcoming updated version of Deception IV: Blood Ties.

Get the details below.

New Stages

Staging plays a very important part in creating impressive domino-effect trap combos in the world of Deception. While Laegrinna, the dark protagonist of Deception IV: Blood Ties, lured her victims in Medieval Castles, Amusement Parks, Ancient Ruins, and a molten iron filled Metal Refinery, Velguirie, the wickedly sadistic new character of Deception IV: the Nightmare Princess, is a lot more playful with her pray.

As she has the ability to face them in the demi-plane between the dreamlands and the waking world she can be more diverse than her adversary and so she can also utilize 3 new stages as her hunting grounds.

In the Gymnasium she uses spring boards, balance beams, high velocity ball throwers, and basketball hoops.
In the Playground she forces them down slides, on merry-go-rounds, and flings them in the air using a deceivingly innocent-looking Panda.
In the Hospital she ties them down on operating tables, electrocutes them, and plays on their fears with oversized syringes.

Velguirie uses every-day locations in a distorted and sinister manner, making them the setting of her rise to power and the source of her returning strength. Through continuously defeating her enemies and completing her quests more of her background story will be gradually revealed to the player, leading to a dramatic finale.

Deception Studio

To make things even more interesting, Koei Tecmo announced that the game will include a mode entitled: ‘Deception Studio’. There, the player has the opportunity to create their own characters for the Deception Princesses to defeat! Options include appearance, weapon and outfit of choice, name and background story, as well as immunities, resistances and strengths! Fulfilling certain requirements in some of the new quests can lead to an award of more edit parts than can be used for creating more unique and distinctive enemies!

Flying toilet plungers, cakes in the face, black holes, acid slime, iron rakes and cursed helmets are only a few of the more than 180 traps that players can choose from to create the funniest, darkest, or most elaborate combos to defeat their adversaries in delightfully imaginative settings that include medieval castles, hospitals, playgrounds, and amusement parks.

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess is due out for PlayStation 4 at retail and PlayStation 3 and PS Vita via PlayStation Network on July 14 in North America and July 17 in Europe.
